MONTHLY SUMMARY OF ISRAELI VIOLATIONS

The following summary tables and overview of events survey hostile Israeli activities during the period 01 February 2016 to 29 February 2016. The report includes a summary table of events, classified by type, throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip, in addition to a comparative table surveying events over the past three months. The survey is compiled from the Daily Situation Reports of the Palestinian Monitoring Group (PMG) of the Negotiations Affairs Department (NAD) of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). The PMG monitors ground conditions in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, including Israeli and Palestinian violations. The PMG Daily Situation Reports are a survey of daily events collated from information provided by civil ministries and security agencies of the Palestinian National Authority. The information reported through the PMG process represents data available at the time of distribution only.

Analysis of Events
Killings: A total of 19 killings were reported in the month of February 2016 including 8 children, 2 Women, a University student and a Security Force officer
Injuries
A total of 217 injuries were reported in the month of February 2016 Injuries included 30 children {including a girl after she was run over by an Israeli settler vehicle and 3 others after being run over by a Israeli Military vehicle} ,a Medical doctor, 2 journalists and 3 residents after being run over by a Israeli Military vehicle .
Arrests
During the month of February 2016, the Israeli military arrested 600 Palestinians (564 the West Bank and 36 in the Gaza Strip). The majority of arrests took place in the districts of Jerusalem (138); Ramallah (73); Jenin (60); Tubas (4) Tulkarem (24); Qalqiliya (12); Nablus (55); Salfit (28); Jericho (15); Bethlehem (57); Hebron (98). North Gaza (12), Gaza (15), Central Gaza (2), Khan Yunis (1) and Rafah (6). Among those arrested by the Israeli military were: 73 children, 7 women, 2 University Students, 9 fishermen and 5 Security Force officers.
Closure
Especially on Fridays, the Israeli military continues to intensify restrictions at checkpoints located at the entrances of Jerusalem, and to restrict entrance to the Al Aqsa Mosque compound in the old city of Jerusalem, preventing worshippers from accessing the Mosque. At the Qalandiya checkpoint north of Jerusalem, the Israeli military continues to prevent PNA registered civilian vehicles from crossing the checkpoint towards Ar Ram and Qalandiya as well as Dahiyat al Bareed. The checkpoint is overcrowded daily, particularly during rush hours, due to intensified restrictions and search measures applied by Israeli troops. During the month of January the Israeli military also continued to intensify restrictions at the Tayasir checkpoint and Al Hamra junction checkpoint leading to the Jordan Valley area, only allowing access to civilians whose IDs indicate District of Jericho residence or others holding special access permits. In addition, restrictions were intensified and civilian access was obstructed at the Za’tara junction checkpoint (separating the northern and central West Bank districts) as well as at the As Sawahira ash Sharqiya (the ‘Container’) checkpoint (separating the central and southern West Bank districts).
The Israeli military installed 422 flying checkpoints in February (compared with 514 in January and 623 in December) and as a result restricted the free access and movement of residents, merchant supplies and agricultural goods.

The Israeli military set up 422 flying checkpoints in February and searched Palestinian civilians and vehicles in and around Palestinian residential areas in the districts of Jerusalem (78); Ramallah (91); Jenin (22); Tubas (5) ; Tulkarem (16); Qalqiliya (49); Nablus (54); Salfit (25); Jericho (31); Bethlehem (28) and Hebron (23).
Raids
The Israeli military carried out a total of 561 raids in Palestinian residential areas during the month of February 2016, including 556 in the West Bank and 5in the Gaza Strip. The majority of Israeli military raids were reported to have taken place in the districts of Jerusalem (63); Ramallah (88); Jenin (60); Tubas (6); Tulkarem (42); Qalqiliya (19); Nablus (53); Salfit (39); Jericho (21); Bethlehem (85); Hebron (77); Central Gaza (1); Khan Yunis (3) and Rafah (1).
The Israeli military opened fire on 280 occasions during raids and clashes with civilians. (A total of 71.2% of attacks).
Attacks
A total of 396 attacks were reported to have taken place during the month of February 2016 (285 in the West Bank and 111 in the Gaza Strip).
The Israeli military carried out 276 attacks during confrontations between the Israeli military and Palestinians, 75 attacks from Israeli military posts on civilian homes and property and 4 from Military checkpoints towards Palestinian residents and vehicle. In addition, Israeli settlers carried out 2 attacks on Palestinian residents and Israeli navy vessels carried out 36 attacks on Palestinian fishermen and territory.
Attacks on residential areas in West Bank districts
Home Demolition
During the month of February 2016, the Israeli military demolished Palestinian homes and residential tents, which consisted of the following:
- Israeli forces demolished 4 residential tents located in Al-Farisiya area of the North Jordan valley in Tubas District.
- Israeli forces demolished 2 homes owned by the families of 2 Palestinian detainees located in Deir Sammit and Tarousiya villages in Hebron district.
- Israeli forces obliged a resident to demolish a section of his home consisting of 2 rooms in Jabal Al-Mukabir neighbourhood located in Jerusalem district.
- Israeli forces demolished 20 Bedouin tents located Khirbiet Ein Rashah area located near Duma village in Nablus district.
- Israeli forces demolished 10 homes in Al-Farisiya village located in the North Jordan valley in Tubas district.
- Israeli forces demolished a residential tent {for the second consecutive time} located in Thaar’ Awad area {Al-Maskar} in the North Jordan valley in Tubas District.
- Israeli forces demolished 7 homes in Al-Jiftlik village in Jericho district.
- Israeli forces demolished 2 homes {made of 4 residential tents and a livestock den} located in Thaar’ Awad area {Al-Maskar} in the North Jordan valley in Tubas District.
- Israeli forces demolished 2 residential tents in Susiya village located in east Yatta town in Hebron district.
- Israeli forces demolished a home in Beit Dajjan village located in Nablus district.
- Israeli forces demolished 2 homes {under construction} located in Sur Bahar village and in Silwan neighbourhood.
- Israeli forces demolished 23 homes in Jinba, Halaweh, Khirbiet Al-Fakhit and Khirbit At Tabban villages located in south east Yatta town in Hebron.

- Israeli forces served military orders for the demolition of a home in Al-Karmil village in Hebron District owned by the family of a resident killed by Israeli forces.
- Israeli forces served military orders for the demolition of 5 homes located in Deir Ballout in Salfit District.
- Israeli forces served military orders for the demolition of 2 homes ion Jabal Al-Mukabir neighbourhood in Jerusalem district owned by families of 2 residents killed by Israeli forces.
- Israeli forces served military orders for the demolition of 2 homes in Nablus city.
- Israeli forces served military orders for the demolition of a home in Beit Amra village in Hebron district.
- Israeli forces served military order for the demolition of a home in Nablus city owned by the family of a Palestinian detainee.

During the Month of January 2016 Israeli forces occupied 11 homes and converted their rooftops into military posts in the following districts in the West Bank:
- Ramallah District: Israeli forces occupied 5 homes and converted their rooftops into military post {1 in Al-Tireh village, 3 Khirbithat Al-Misbah village, 1 in Beit Ur Al-Tahta village}
- Jenin District: Israeli forces occupied 2 homes and converted their rooftops into military post {1 in Qabatiya town and 1 in Sanur village}.
- Bethlehem District: Israeli forces occupied 1 home and converted their rooftops into military post {2 in Al-Khader town}.
Attacks on Public and Private Property
A total of 91 incidents of destruction and confiscation of Palestinian public and private property by Israeli settlers and Israeli forces were reported in February 2016 (87 in the West Bank and 4 in the Gaza Strip).
Attack on Public and Private property occurred as follows per District:
Jerusalem: Israeli forces demolished several livestock dens {baracks’} in Al-Eisawiya village and demolished a vehicle repair garage in Al-Eisawiya village.
Ramallah: Israeli forces demolished 3 livestock dens {barracks}, a vehicle repair shop and a carwash in Ni’lin town, demolished agricultural dens in Ni’lin town, detonated the entrance door of a building as they stormed it in Al-Bireh city, uprooted several Olive tree on agricultural land near Deir Ibzi’ village junction, detonated open the main entrance of a building as they stormed it and demolished a clothes fitting rom and 2 agricultural dens as well as a water well in Bi’lin village.
Jenin: a vehicle was set on fired during confrontations between residents and Israeli forces after a tear gas grenade exploded inside the vehicle near the east entrance of Ya’bad town.
Tubas: Israeli forces demolished 4 livestock dens and an electrical generator in Al-Farisiya area located in the North Jordan valley, demolished a baracks and 2 water ponds in Bardala. Kardala and Ein Al-Bayda villages, demolished a livestock den and a home in Al-Farisiya village in the North Jordan valley, demolished a tent used to house livestock located in Dara’ Awad-Al-Mukasarat area in the North Jordan valley area.
Tulkarem: Israeli forces levelled a plot of agricultural land and placed dirt mounds {for allegedly attempting to prevent children from stoning in the area} near the wall gate in Nazlat Issa village,
Nablus: Israeli settlers uprooted 30 Olive trees in Jallud town, set fire to 400 wooden crates and a electrical generator on a electricity pole after they were struck by a tear gas grenade canister during confrontations between residents and Israeli forces near a fruit market in Nablus city, Isreaeli forces set fire to a room which houses Palestinian Police officers guarding Joseph’s Tomb in Nablus city, demolished a live stock den in Khirbeit Ein Al-Rashash near Madma village, and demolished 6 barrack’s in Khirbeit Tana area located in east Furiq town.
Salfit: Israeli forces uprooted 80 Olive trees in Wadi Qana area.
Jericho: Israeli forces demolished 2 livestock dens in Jiftlik village.
Hebron: Israeli forces exploded using detonation the main door as they stormed a home in Samou’ town, smashed the windows of a vehicle after a tear gas canister struck it in Al-Arub camp, levelled several plants on several plots of agricultural land in east Yatta town.
North Gaza: Israeli Naval vessels opened fire towards and damaged a fishing boat off the shores of North Gaza.
Israeli Forces served the following military orders in February 2016:
- Israeli forces served Military orders to halt construction on a home in Beit Awwa town in Hebron district.
- Israeli forces served Military orders to demolish 3 live stock dens in Khirbeit Al-Taban and Khirbeit Al-Fikhat area’s located in south east Yatta in Hebron district.
- Israeli forces served Military orders to demolish livestock dens in Jabal Baba area in Al-Eizraiya town.
- Israeli forces served Military orders to demolish 15 merchant shops in Beita town in Nablus district for the purpose of constructing a road.
- Israeli forces served Military orders to halt construction on 5 homes in Deir Ballout town in Salfit district.
- Israeli forces served Military orders to demolish 6 merchant shops in Barta’a Al-Sharqiya village in Jenin district.
- Israeli forces served Military orders to demolish a water well and pave a road 600m on agricultural land in Qusra village in Nablus.
- Israeli forces served Military orders to halt construction on 2 homes in Qub’a area located near “Kiryat Arba’ settlement” in the old city of Hebron.
- Confiscation of Property
Jerusalem: Israeli forces confiscated a cellular telephone, 3 computers as they stormed a home in Al-Eizariya town.
Ramallah: Israeli forces confiscated a vehicle and a agricultural tractor in Beituniya town, surveillance camera footage from a gas station in Beit Ur Al-Tahta village and a mobile trailer in Khirbithat Al-Misbah village.
Jenin: Israeli forces confiscated a vehicle in Jinsafout village.
Tulkarem: Israeli forces confiscated a financial amount of 2000 NIS after storming and searching a home Sayda village.
Qalqiliya: Israeli forces confiscated a vehicle fter detining a resident in east Qalqiliya city and confiscated a computer and Cellular telephone in Qalqiliya city.
Nablus: Israeli forces confiscated a tractor in Qusra village and a cellular telephone in Beit Furiq town
Bethlehem: Israeli forces confiscated computers from a Orphan association in Bethlehem city, surveillance camera footage from a home in Nihlin village.
Hebron: Israeli forces confiscated construction equipment and steel cutting tools from a company in Za’ata area located in east Beit Ummar town, 15000 NIS as they stormed and searched a home in Halhoul town, 2 tenbts in Susiyya village located in east Yatta town, Solar Panals for electricity in Jinba village in south east Yatta town.
North Gaza: Israeli forces confiscated 2 fishing boats off the shores of North Gaza district.

Israeli forces levelled a plot of land in the area located between Izbit Shufa and Kafa village in Tulkarem district.
Settler Violence
26 incidents of Settler violence occurred during the month of January 2016 including:
Jerusalem: Israeli settlers sprayed waste water on home in Batin Al-Hawa area in Silwan neighbourhood, a Israeli settler vehicle ran over a child in Shu’fat camp.
Ramallah: A Israeli settler opened foire near Burqa village bridge.
Tulkarem: Israeli settlers installed Mobile homes on a plot of land in Kafr Sur village near “Sal’it” serttlement..
Nablus: Israeli settlers stormed Bi’r Al-Ghazalah area located near Tel village, opened fire in the area between Aqraba and Beita towns, uprooted 30 Olive trees in Jalloud village, ran over a resident with a vehicle and assaulted him near “Yitzhar” settlement junction in North Huwara town and attempted to assault a resident near Majdal Bani Fadil village.

Qalqiliya: Israeli settlers chased a vehicke and smashed the windshield using a steel pipe near “Ariel” settlement.
Jericho: Israeli settler vehicle ran over and killed a resident in Al-Oja village.
Hebron: Israeli settlers assaulted a resident near “Kiryat Arba’” settlement as they stormed Beit Amrat village, assaulted a resiednta as he was herding his goats in east Yatta and assaulted several residents in south Al-Thahriya town
Closure of Crossing Points
The Israeli military completely closed crossing points into the Gaza Strip, including access points within the Green Line, on 154 occasions during the month of February. The Israeli military closed crossing points within the Green Line on 99 occasions. It opened Beit Hanun (Erez) Crossing for 25 days for previously-coordinated humanitarian cases and foreign nationals and Karm Abu Salem (Karem Shalom) Crossing for 21 days for transportation of food supplies, humanitarian aid, and cooking gas. In addition to allowing in animal feed, construction cargo designated for UNRWA and internationally-funded projects was transported through the Crossing. Sufa Crossing was closed throughout the month. On the other hand, the Israeli authorities have continued to unilaterally close Ash Shuja’iya (Nahal ‘Oz) Crossing. Beginning on 02 March 2011, the Israeli authorities has also continued to completely close Al Muntar (Karnei) Commercial Crossing.
The Israeli military closed international crossing points on 55 occasions. Rafah Crossing was open for 26 days to allow access to civilians departing the Gaza Strip and to those arriving from Egypt. Yasser Arafat International Airport has remained closed since the outbreak of the second Intifada.
