The following summary tables and overview of events survey hostile Israeli activities during the period 01 December 2017 to December 31 2017. The report includes a summary table of events, classified by type, throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip, in addition to a comparative table surveying events over the past three months. The survey is compiled from the Daily Situation Reports of the Palestinian Monitoring Group (PMG) of the Negotiations Affairs Department (NAD) of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). The PMG monitors ground conditions in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, including Israeli and Palestinian violations. The information reported through the PMG process represents data available at the time of distribution only.

Analysis of Events
Killings:
A total of 14 residents were killed by Israeli forces during the month of December 2017 {3 in the West Bank and 11 in Gaza}:
- December 8th 2017: Israeli forces positioned behind the Green Line opened fire and launched stun and tear gas canister towards several demonstrators near Beit Hanun (Erez) crossing located in east Jabaliya town and as a result killed Maher Mohammad Attallah {54 years old} and injured 24 residents {including 2 critically injured}.
- December 8th 2017: Israeli forces positioned behind the Green Line opened fire, launched stun and tear gas canisters towards several demonstrators in east Al-Farahin area located in east Abbassan Al-Kabirah town and as a result killed Mahmoud Abdel-Majeed Al-Masri {29 years old}and injured 15 unidentified residents.
- December 9th 2017: Israeli Military aircraft launched a missiles towards Palestinian Gunmen in south Gaza city and as a result killed 2 residents {including a Palestinian Gunmen}: Mohammad Mohammad Jabr Sha'ban Al-Safadi {25 years old} and Mahmoud Mohammad Abdel-Qadder Al-Attal {26 years old}.
- December 12th 2017: Israeli forces fired rubber coated steel bullets, stun and tear gas canisters towards several residents for alleged stoning as they stormed and searched several homes during their raid into Al-Zabidat village and as a result killed Hamda Al-Zabidat {60 years old}{who suffered a heart attack after Israeli forces fired stun grenades towards her}.
- December 15th 2017: Israeli forces positioned behind the Green Line opened fire, launched stun and tear gas canisters towards several demonstrators in east Al-Shija’iya neighborhood located in east Gaza city and as a result killed 2 residents {including a Disabled man}: Ibrahim Nayef Ibrahim Abu Thoria 29 years old -{ a Disabled man} and Yasser Naji Ibrahim Sukkar {23 years}, injured 16 others and left 18 residents suffocated from tear gas inhalation
- December 15th 2017: : Israeli forces positioned near the entrance of Anata town fired rubber coated steel bullets, stun and tear gas canisters towards several residents for alleged stoning and as a result killed Basel Mustafa Mohammad Ibrahim {29 years old} and left several others suffocated from tear gas inhalation.
- December 15th 2017: Israeli forces positioned at "Al-Mahkama" Military checkpoint located near "Beit El" settlement in North Al-Bireh city fired live ammunition, rubber coated steel bullets, stun and tear gas canisters towards several residents for alleged stoning and as a result killed Mohammed Amin Shehdeh Aql {19 years old}{residents of Beit Ula, town in Hebron city} after firing 8 bullets towards him, injured 36 residents {including 3 children and a Journalist}Imran Ibrahim Mahmoud Metwar, journalist Nael Mohammed (correspondent of Palestine Television)Uday Khalil Saleh (17 years old), Awwad Samir Gomaa, Ahmed Mohamed Azzam, Sari Abd 15 years, Ahmed Mahmoud Mohammed al-Qadi, Mohammed Khaled Suleiman Zalloum 17 years, Muhammad Ali Abd al-Ahmad, Hilal Talal Shehadeh, Saleh Mazen Saleh Arman, Iyad Mohamed Shalalda, Ghassan Sofian Rafik Mikdadi, Mohamed Emad Saad, Ahmed Safi Jubran and left 26 others suffocated from tear gas inhalation then detained a child.
- December 22nd 2017: Israeli forces positioned behind the Green Line opened fire and launched stun and tear gas canister towards several demonstrators near Beit Hanun (Erez) crossing and as a result killed Zakariya Adham Hussien Kafarna {20 years old}{A resident of Beit Hanoun town} and injured 8 residents and left several residents suffocated from tear gas inhalation.
- December 22nd 2017: Israeli forces positioned behind the Green Line opened fire and launched stun and tear gas canister towards several demonstrators near east Jabaliya town and as a result killed Mohammad Nabeel Muhisien {30 years old}{A resident of Al-Shija'ya neighborhood in east Gaza city} and injured 16 residents and left several residents suffocated from tear gas inhalation.
- December 23rd 2017: Sharif Al-Abed Mohammad Shalash {28 years old} {a resident of Jabaliya camp} died of injuries sustained during clashes on December 17 2017.
- December 24th 2017: Mohammad Sami Hisham Al-Dahdouh {19 years old} {A resident of Al-Zaytouneh neighborhood in south east Gaza city} died after being hospitalized for injuries sustained during clashes in east Gaza city on December 8th 2017.
- December 30th 2017: Jamal Mohammad Jamal Muslih {20 years old}{A resident of Al-Maghazi camp} died of injuries sustained during clashes in east Al-Buriej camp on December 29th 2017
Injuries
A total of 1084 injuries were reported in the month of December 2017 (676 Palestinians in the West Bank and 408 in the Gaza Strip). Injuries included 43 children, 7 Journalists, 3 Women and a PLC Member.
Arrests
During the month of December 2017, the Israeli military arrested 703 Palestinians (699 in the West Bank and 4 in the Gaza Strip). The majority of arrests took place in the districts of Jerusalem (208); Ramallah (105); Jenin (59); Tubas (15) Tulkarem (20); Qalqiliya (26); Nablus (81); Salfit (11); Jericho (14); Bethlehem (52); Hebron (108), North Gaza (3) and Khan Yunis (1). Among those arrested by the Israeli military were: 100 children, 14 women, 3 Security officers, 5 University students, 4 journalist and 2 PLC members.

Closure
Especially on Fridays, the Israeli military continues to intensify restrictions at checkpoints located at the entrances of Jerusalem, and to restrict entrance to the Al Aqsa Mosque compound in the old city of Jerusalem, preventing worshippers from accessing the Mosque. At the Qalandiya checkpoint north of Jerusalem, the Israeli military continues to prevent PNA registered civilian vehicles from crossing the checkpoint towards Ar Ram and Qalandiya as well as Dahiyat al Bareed. The checkpoint is overcrowded daily, particularly during rush hours, due to intensified restrictions and search measures applied by Israeli troops. During the month of January the Israeli military also continued to intensify restrictions at the Tayasir checkpoint and Al Hamra junction checkpoint leading to the Jordan Valley area, only allowing access to civilians whose IDs indicate District of Jericho residence or others holding special access permits. In addition, restrictions were intensified and civilian access was obstructed at the Za’tara junction checkpoint (separating the northern and central West Bank districts) as well as at the As Sawahira ash Sharqiya (the ‘Container’) checkpoint (separating the central and southern West Bank districts).
The Israeli military installed 431 flying checkpoints in December 2017 (compared with 425 in November 2017 and 397 in October 2017 and) and as a result restricted the free access and movement of residents, merchant supplies and agricultural goods.

The Israeli military carried out a total of 535 raids in Palestinian residential areas during the month of December 2017, including 530 in the West Bank and 5 in the Gaza Strip. The majority of Israeli military raids were reported to have taken place in the districts of Jerusalem (44); Ramallah (68); Jenin (97); Tubas (10); Tulkarem (39); Qalqiliya (27); Nablus (57); Salfit (24); Jericho (8); Bethlehem (58); Hebron (98); North Gaza (1), Central Gaza (1), Khan Yunis (2) and Rafah (1).

Attacks on residential areas in West Bank districts
Home Demolition
During the month of December 2017, the Israeli military demolished 4 Palestinian homes and residential tents, which consisted of the following:
Jenin:
- December 1st 2017: Israeli forces demolished the family home of Ziyad Mohammad Khalil Abu Al-Rub {A Palestinian Detainee} in Qabatiya town.
Jerusalem:
- December 5th 2017: Israeli forces stormed Ras Khamis neighborhood near Shu'fat camp in Jerusalem city and demolished the foundations of a building {under construction} for allegedly being built without a license during which they clashed with several residents
- December 17th 2017: Israeli forces stormed Ras Al-Amoud neighborhood in Jerusalem and forced Hytham Fadil Abu Ramouz to demolish his home for allegedly being built without a license and also made him pay a hefty fine.
- December 23rd 2017: Israeli forces stormed Silwan neighborhood forced Omar Abu Rajab to demolish his 45 square meter home for allegedly being built without a license and made him pay a financial penalty as well as the cost of demolition.

Jerusalem:
- December 10th 2017: Israeli forces escorting Archaeologist from The Israel Antiquities Authority stormed Bab Al-Rahma Cemetery located east of Al-Aqsa mosque compound in the old city of Jerusalem and chopped down several old trees in the cemetery.
- December 11th 2017: Israeli forces escorting Archaeologist from The Israel Antiquities Authority stormed Bab Al-Rahma Cemetery located east of Al-Aqsa mosque compound in the old city of Jerusalem and chopped down several old trees in the cemetery.
- December 13th 2017: Israeli forces escorting employees from the Israeli Antiquities Authority stormed Bab Al-Rahma cemetery located near the east wall of Al-Aqsa mosque compound in the old city of Jerusalem {for the fourth consecutive day} and chopped down several tree's and placed barbed wire fencing around the south area of the cemetery for settlement construction.
- December 16th 2017: The Israeli Military forces several merchants to close down their shops at Salah Al-Din road in Jerusalem city.
- December 26th 2017: Israeli forces demolished several merchant shops and a livestock den in Silwan neighborhood in Jerusalem city for allegedly being built without a license.
- December 27th 2017: a group of Israeli settlers stormed Beit Safafa village and threw a Molotov cocktail fire bomb towards the home of Riyad Hatab and also set fire to his vehicle.
Nablus:
- December 26th 2017: Israeli forces mapped and took photographs of agricultural land in Qusra village.
Hebron:
- December 16th 2017: Israeli forces positioned in Khilat Al-Kutla located in Beit Ummar town near "Karmi Tsur" settlement and chopped down several Olive trees owned by Thabet Mohammad Ahmad Abu Mariya.
Khan Yunis:
- December 13th 2017: Israeli airstrike towards south west Khan Yunis town damaged several homes.
Confiscation of Property:
Ramallah:
- December 19th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated several cellular telephones, computers and Digital camera's after storming and searching the home of Bassam Al-Tamimi during their raid into Al-Nab i Saleh village.
- December 19th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated 5000 NIS from the home of Mohammad Mahmoud Ahmad Safi after detaining him during their raid into Jifna village.
- December 19th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated a vehicle and sums of cash from the home of Hussien Abu Qweik during their raid into in Al-Amari camp in Al-Bireh city.
Jenin:
- December 17th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated 4500 NIS and a personal vehicle as they stormed and searched the family home of Nihad Raed Mohammad Salem Waqad {who was killed by Israeli forces} during their raid into Al-Arqa village.
- December 17th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated 1800 JD as they stormed and searched the family home of Mohammad Riyad Mohammad Zakarnah {who was detained by Israeli forces} during their raid into Qabatiya town.
- December 26th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated steel mill equipment owned by Omran Alam Amran as they stormed his steel mill during their raid into Jenin city.
- December 26th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated a motorcycle owned by Mohammad Salah Mahmoud Abu Sharbat {A resident of Rumana village} after detaining him near Rumana village.
Tubas:
- December 18th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated a tractor owned by Khalid Bani Odeh as he was working on agricultural land near Attuf village.
Nablus:
- December 10th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated an agricultural tractor and a Blacksmith Machine owned by several residents who were installing water pipe lines connecting Faroush, Beit Dajan and Beit Furiq towns near Al-Nassriya village
Qalqiliya:
- December 3rd 2017: Israeli forces confiscated surveillance camera footage from several merchant shops as they raided Al-Fanduq village.
- December 3rd 2017: Israeli forces confiscated a vehicle owned by Fa'eq Hassan Ahmad during their raid into Azzun Atma village.
Bethlehem:
- December 3rd 2017: Israeli force confiscated a bulldozer owned by Hassan Al-Wahish as he was paving a road in Baqoush area located in west Al-Khader town.
- December 25th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated a bulldozer owned by Jihad Nasri Awad {A resident of Beit Sahur city} as he was constructing a road in Beit Ta'mar village.
- December 27th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated a storage Caravan {used to store agricultural tools} owned by Majd Hamdan in Jabal Rowisat located in North Al-Walja village.
Hebron:
- December 19th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated a vehicle owned by Mohammad Tah'sin Abdel-Rahim Shawar during their raid into Hebron city.
- December 23rd 2017: Israeli forces confiscated a vehicle owned by Ghassan Ahmad Al-Qawasmi after detaining him during their raid into Hebron city.
- December 24th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated a vehicle owned by Mahmoud Abdel-Qadder Ayyadat after storming and searching his home during their raid into Al-Shiyoukh town.
- December 27th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated 3 vehicle owned by 3 unidentified residents during their raid into Al-Arrub camp.
- December 27th 2017: Israeli forces confiscated cash from the home of Noah Qufshiya during their raid into Hebron city.
North Gaza:
- December 3rd 2017: Israeli forces confiscated a fishing boat off the shores of Al-Sudaniya area located in west Beit Lahiya town.
- December 21st 2017: Israeli forces confiscated a fishing boat after temporarily detained 2 fishermen off the shores of Al-Waha area located in West Beit Lahiya town.
- December 28th 2017: Israeli Naval forces confiscated a fishing boat after detained 2 fishermen off the shores of Al-Waha area located in West Beit Lahiya town.
Settlement Activity:
Jerusalem:
- December 19th 2017: Israeli Authorities commenced the opening of a new Synagogue in the tunnel near the Wailing Wall underneath Al-Aqsa mosque which is on Islamic archaeological sites in the old city of Jerusalem.
- December 25th 2017: The "Elad" settlement organization placed mobile homes (caravans) belonging to the Israeli municipality in order to accommodate the families of new settlers in the area of Beidoun in the Silwan neighborhood of Jerusalem.
- December 25th 2017: Israeli Authorities in the settlement outpost "Hayya" built on the lands of the citizens of the village of Jalud, the construction of more than 15 new housing units, in addition to the construction of new settlement roads in the vicinity of the settlement outpost.
Nablus:
- December 17th 2017: Israeli forces stormed the east area of Orif village and leveled 500 dunums of land owned by Al-Asamar, Saleem, Abu Hussien and Jaber Al-Miesha families land near "Yitshar" settlement.

Jerusalem:
- December 3rd 2017: Israeli settlers stormed Ein Al-Hilwah area located in Silwan neighborhood in Jerusalem city and placed concrete on a plot of land under threat of confiscation.
- December 3rd 2017: Israeli settlers stormed Wadi Al-Joz neighborhood in Jerusalem city and spray painted racist slogans on the interior walls of a building.
- December 20th 2017: An Israeli settler attempted to storm Al-Aqsa Mosque from Al-Qatanin Gate in the old city of Jerusalem during which mosque guards were able to prevent him from entering the mosque during which Israeli forces removed the settler from the area.
Ramallah &Al-Bireh:
- December 5th 2017: An Israeli settler's vehicle travelling along the bypass road in Al-Labban Al-Gharbi village ran over Hamoudeh Fawaz Radi {A resident of Al-Labban Al-Gharbi village} and as a result left him hospitalized with contusions.
- December 24th 2017: An Israeli settler positioned at "Atarit" settlement opened fire towards the vehicle of Abdel-Rahman Al-Khatib {A resident of Awarta town} as he was travelling in the area.
Jenin:
- December 5th 2017: A group of Israeli settlers positioned near "Homish" settlement stoned residents and vehicles travelling along the main road connecting Nablus and Jenin.
Tubas:
- December 1st 2017: An armed Israeli settler from "Rotem" settlement located in the North Jordan valley chased several Sheppard from the area.
- December 26th 2017: An Israeli settler in Khilat Hamad area located in the North Jordan valley paved a road to connect Khilat Hamad area with road (90).
Nablus:
- December 5th 2017: A group of Israeli settlers stormed Al-Jabal Al-Kabir located in Salem village and installed a Mobil Home approximately 1 KM away from a Palestinian residents Home.
- December 13th 2017: Israeli settlers positioned near the by pass road near "Yitshar" settlement assaulted Mu'tasem Shawkat Ahmad Khudair {A residents of Bieta town} and as a result left him hospitalized with contusions.
- December 14th 2017: A group of Israeli settlers from Yitshar settlement stormed agricultural land in Burin village, stoned several home during which Israeli forces fired stun and tear gas canisters towards several residents who attempted to prevent the settler attack
- December 21st 2017: a group of Israeli settlers from "Yitshar" settlement stormed agricultural land in Madma village then chopped off the limbs and damaged 20 Olive trees owned by Qassim Al-Najjar.
- December 23rd 2017: a group of Israeli settlers stormed agricultural land in Al-Qa'adat area located in Madma village and chopped off the limbs of 30 Olive trees during which Israeli forces fired live ammunition, rubber coated steel bullets, and stun and tear gas canisters towards several residents who attempted to prevent the settler attack and as a result injured 4 residents.
- December 26th 2017: A group of Israeli settlers positioned near Huwara military checkpoint stoned residents and vehicles passing through the checkpoint.
- December 28th 2017: A group of Israeli settlers positioned in Burin village stoned residents and vehicles and as a result damaged 3 vehicles.
Salfit:
- December 28th 2017: A group of Israeli settlers stormed agricultural land in Harris village located near "Rafafa" settlement and assaulted Radwan Ma'moun Abdel-Kareem Daud {A resident of Harris village}.
Bethlehem:
- December 14th 2017: A group of Israeli settlers positioned near "Ifrat" settlement junction stoned residents and vehicles passing along the main road connecting Bethlehem and Hebron.
- December 15th 2017: Israeli settlers stormed the area of Solomon's Pools in Artas village then performed Talmudic rituals.
Hebron:
- December 15th 2017: Israeli settlers stormed Al-Da'siya area located in south Sa'ir town then withdrew at a later time.
- December 16th 2017: Israeli settlers under the protection of the Israeli Military stormed Khirbeit Mas and Khirbeit Tabqiya area's in Halhul town then performed Talmudic rituals.
Closure of Crossing Points
The Israeli military completely closed crossing points into the Gaza Strip, including access points within the Green Line, on 166 occasions during the month of December 2017. The Israeli military closed crossing points within the Green Line on 109 occasions. It opened Beit Hanun (Erez) Crossing for 25 days for previously-coordinated humanitarian cases and foreign nationals and Karm Abu Salem (Karem Shalom) Crossing for 21 days for transportation of food supplies, humanitarian aid, and cooking gas. In addition to allowing in animal feed, construction cargo designated for UNRWA and internationally-funded projects was transported through the Crossing. Sufa Crossing was closed throughout the month. On the other hand, the Israeli authorities have continued to unilaterally close Ash Shuja’iya (Nahal ‘Oz) Crossing. Beginning on 02 March 2011, the Israeli authorities has also continued to completely close Al Muntar (Karnei) Commercial Crossing.
The Israeli military closed international crossing points on 57 occasions. Rafah Crossing was closed. Yasser Arafat International Airport has remained closed since the outbreak of the second Intifada.
