Daily Violations Report March 1, 2016

WEST BANK

JERUSALEM

Closure
  1. On February 29th 2016, the Israeli army, intensified their restrictions at the entrance to Jerusalem city, set up several flying checkpoints on the main road leading to the city and prevented worshipers under the age of 50 from conducting prayers at Al-Aqsa mosque compound which forced residents to conduct prayers near checkpoints located outside Al-Aqsa mosque compound.
  2. The Israeli army continues to close the ‘demarcation area’ along the Wall in the area surrounding occupied East Jerusalem and restricts access to local residents as well as to civilians holding special permits.
  3. The Israeli army continues to impose a blockade and deny civilian access to a hill between Biddu and Beit Iksa villages.
Closure of main Roads
  1. The Israeli army continues to close with cement blocks and dirt mounds the entrance to Jaba’ village.
  2. The Israeli army continues to close with an iron gate the eastern entrance to Beit Iksa village and forces civilians to access Jerusalem city through Qalandiya checkpoint. 
Military Checkpoints
  1. Israeli authorities continue to consider Qalandiya checkpoint a “border crossing point” and designate a special crossing lane for holders of Jerusalem IDs and another for those possessing permits to access Jerusalem city.
  2. On September 19th 2012, Israeli forces closed Ras Khamis checkpoint near Shu’fat camp and impeded the free flow of traffic in order to construct the wall.
Raid
  1. At dawn on February 29th 2016, Israeli forces raided Al-Isawiya village, stormed a home and detained a child.
  2. At 21:45, Israeli forces raided Abu Dis and clashed with several residents.
  3. At 22:30, Israeli forces {escorted by Military Helicopter cover} raided Qalandiya camp {as several resident hurled stones and fire bombs towards and set fire  to a Israeli Military vehicle carrying 2 Israeli soldiers as they entered the camp and managed to escape the vehicle}clashed with several residents  and as a result killed 1 residents and injured 10 others including a child: Adham Abd Ibrahim Abu Naser, Tahda Al-Toukhi, Muhyi Al-Din Al-Khatib, Mutasim Wajeeh Odeh, Moath Mohammad Aliyan, Ibrahim Ziyad Matir, Khalid Matir, Nahed Fawzi Matir, Alaa Abu Rawis and Muntasir Hamad then withdrew at 03:00.
  4. At 00:50, Israeli forces raided Anata, clashed with several residents as they stormed and searched several homes and as a result injured Osama Mohammad Aliyan, detained 4 residents then withdrew at 04:00.
Killings
  1. Israeli forces opened fire towards and killed Eyad Omar Mahmoud Sajdiya (22 years old) {A University student} in Qalandiya camp.
Attack
  1. At 10:00, Israeli forces positioned in Ras Al-Amoud neighbourhood fired stun and tear gas grenades towards several residents for alleged stoning.
Detention
  1. At 12:30, Israeli forces detained 2 residents including a child: Mohammad Imad Abdallah Al-Ghalban (16 years old) and Ahmad Imad Abdallah Al-Ghalban as they were reporting to Israeli Intelligence for questioning based on a prior summon.
  2. At 14:30, Israeli forces detained Issra Nu’man Obied (A resident of Isawiya village).
  3. At 21:00, Israeli forces detained Nasser Jamal Abu Assab (A resident of AthThuri neighbourhood in Jerusalem.
  4. At dawn on March 1st 2016, Israeli forces detained Mu’tasim Masudah (A resident of Silwan neighbourhood).
  5.  Israeli forces detained Layth Tarik Darwish (17 years old).
  6. Israeli forces detained 4 residents: Ahmad Hassan Mohammad Holwah, Abdallah Ahmad Hulwah, Hafith Sharha and Ameen Fathi Hamdan in Anata.
Temporary Detention
  1. At 14:30, Israeli forces temporarily detained the child: Ali Qayed Ismail Taha (11 years old) {A resident of Qatanna village).
House Demolition
  1. At dawn on March 1st 2016, Israeli forces stormed Wadi Yasol area in Silwan neighbourhood in Jerusalem and demolished the home of Yusef Abed Samrin for allegedly being built without a licence then clashed with several residents as they attempted to prevent the demolition and as a result injured 2 residents: Mohammad Samrin and Ahmad Awad as well as leaving several others suffocated from tear gas inhalation.
Injuries
  1. Israeli forces injured 2 residents: Mohammad Samrin and Ahmad Awad during confrontations in Silwan neighborhood in Jerusalem.
Obstruction of Places of Worship
  1. At 09:00, a group of Israeli settlers under the protection of Israeli Military and Police forces stormed Al-Aqsa mosque compound in the old city of Jerusalem and provoked worshipers.
Closure of Wall Gates
  1. The Israeli army continues to close with cement blocks the Wall gate in Abu Dis town.
  2. The Israeli army continues to deny civilian access through the Wall gate on Al-Shayyah road in the area between Al-Sawahira Al-Sharqiya and Al-Slewahira Al-Gharbiya villages, only allowing civilians holding Jerusalem IDs to cross, after subjecting them to thorough searches using electronic devices.

RAMALLAH & AL BIREH

Closure of main Roads
  1. The Israeli army continues to close the entrances to Sinjil village well as the junction to Kafr Malik and ‘Ein Samiya villages and in Deir Ibzi’ village with dirt mounds.
  2. On December 15th 2015, Israeli forces closed the West entrance of Al-Labban Al-Gharbi village with cement blocks.
  3. At 09:20 on February 9th 2016, Israeli forces closed the main road connecting Shuqba and Sabatini villages with cement blocks and also installed a steel gate in the area.
  4. At 24:00 on February 14th 2016, closed the main road near the entrance of “Bet El” settlement which leads to Al-Jalazoun camp with cement blocks for alleged gunfire towards Bet El settlement as alleged by the Israeli Military.
Flying Checkpoints
  1. At 10:55, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint at the entrance of Beit Ur Al Foqa then searched residents and vehicles until 11:30.

JENIN

Closure
  1. On December 24th 2015, Israeli forces closed off the area  {900m wide and 100m long} along the main road connecting Jenin and Tulkarem leading to south Ya’bad and installed a barbed wire fence around the area  and declared the area a closed military zone.
Raid
  1. At 22:40, Israeli forces raided Arraba and assaulted Allam Abdel-Qadder Al-Sha’er as they stormed his home and as a result left him hospitalised with contusions then withdrew at 05:00.
  2. At 03:40, Israeli forces raided Qabatiya, stormed and searched 2 homes, detained 2 residents then withdrew at 05:00.
Detention
  1. At 02:35 on February 29th 2016, Israeli forces detained 2 children: Ahmad Ayed Samoudi (15 years old) and Sameh Hassan Samoudi (15 years) during their raid into Al-Yamoun village in addition to those mentioned in the previous report.
  2. Israeli forces detained Ashraf Rajeh Ahmad Zakarneh and Mohammad Andel-Min’im Zakarnah in Qabatiya.
Closure of Wall Gates
  1. Israeli forces continue too close the wall gate and only allow those holding special permits to enter through it.

TULKAREM

Military Checkpoints
  1. At 08:55, Israeli forces continue to intensify their restrictions at “Eniv” checkpoint located along the main road connecting Tulkarem and Nablus and impeded the free flow of traffic until 09:25.

QALQILIYA

Closure of Roads
  1. Israeli forces continue to close with cement blocks agricultural roads east of Azzun town.
  2. In addition to closing the gate installed since the outbreak the second Intifada, the Israeli army continues to close with dirt mounds the eastern entrance to Kafr Qaddum village.
  3. Since 10:40 on September 1st 2015, Israeli forces closed an agricultural road leading to Far’ata village which is located near “Gillad” settlement with a steel Gate.
Flying Checkpoints
  1. At 13:20, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint in the area between Azzun and Izbit Al-Tabib village then temporarily detained Loia Hamza Hussien (A resident of Azzun) and released him at a later time.
Raid
  1. At 02:15, Israeli forces raided Qalqiliya city, detained a resident then withdrew at 04:30.
Detention
  1. Israeli forces detained Mohammad Billal Fareej in Qalqiliya city.
Temporary Detention
  1. At 13:00, Israeli forces positioned in Azzun temporarily detained Oday Samir Abu Haniya (A resident of Azzun) then released him at a later time.
Closure of Wall Gates
  1. The Israeli army continues to restrict access at ‘Azzun ‘Atma Wall gate and impeded the free flow of traffic. The Israeli army continues to close with an iron gate the entrance to the village of Wadi Al- Rasha and to deny civilian access.
  2. The Israeli army allows residents to access the village through Gate #109. Having removed the gate at the entrance to the village of Ras Atiya; the Israeli army only allows students to cross to their schools outside the village through the Habla gate.

NABLUS

Closure
  1. Since December 17th 2013, Israeli forces ordered the closure 500 dunumes of land in Qusra village as a closed military area.
Closure of main Roads

(i) The Israeli army continues to close the northern entrance to Qabalan town; the southern entrances to the town of Jamma’in and the villages of Duma and Qaryut. (ii) At 06:30 on November 22nd 2015, Israeli forces closed the main road connecting Aqraba and Yanoun village with dirt mounds. (iii) At 13:00 on December 1st 2015, Israeli forces closed the main road connecting Tel village and the bypass road near “Yitsahar” settlement and installed a steel gate in the area. (iv) At 18:30 on January 19th 2016, Israeli forces closed the main road connecting Huwara and Walada village with dirt mounds.

Military Checkpoints

(i) At 11:00, Israeli forces intensified their restrictions at Beit Furiq checkpoint and impeded the free flow of traffic until 11:45. (ii) At 13:15 and again at 19:30, Israeli forces intensified their restrictions at Huwara checkpoint and impeded the free flow of traffic until 20:50

Flying Checkpoints

(i) At 08:45, Israeli forces positioned near “Yitzhar” settlement junction located in North Huwwara then searched residents and vehicles. (ii) At 16:20, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint at Sarra village junction located along the main road connecting Nablus and Qalqiliya then searched residents and vehicles until 17:30. (iii) At 16:55, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint at Madama village junctions then searched residents and vehicles.

Raid

At 02:10, Israeli forces raided Nablus city stormed and searched several merchant shops and confiscated construction equipment, detained 2 residents then withdrew at 04:25.

Detention

(i) At dawn on February 29th 2016, Israeli forces detained Adnan Abdel-Raziq Ayad (a Police Force Officer) during their raid into Nablus city in addition to those mentioned in the previous report. (ii) Israeli forces detained Firas Al-Shayib and Mahmoud Anabtawi in Nablus city.

Temporary Detention

At 12:25, Israeli forces temporarily detained 4 residents: Sa’eb Sudqi Ishtayeh, Yusef Mahmoud Ishtayeh, Sharif Ma’rouf Abdalllah Al-Taher and Taher Abdallah Ishtayeh in Salem village then released them at 17:00.

Settlers Violence

(i) At 20:10, Ayman Ahmad Jaber Bansi Shamasneh (A resident of Beita) was assaulted by several Israeli settlers and as a result left him hospitalised with contusions. (ii) At 04:35, Israeli settlers positioned in east Nablus assaulted Mahmoud Suliman Awwad Rizq (A resident of Askar camp in Nablus city) and as a result left him hospitalised with contusions.

SALFIT

Closure of main Roads
  1. The Israeli army continues to close with dirt mounds the entrance to two detour roads connecting Marda village to its farmland.
  2. Since 11:00 on July 30th 2012, Israeli forces have closed two roads leading to Abu Nasar and Qatan Al-Jama’ located in western area of Deir Istiya with cement blocks.
Military Checkpoints
  1. Israeli forces continue to intensify their restrictions at Za’tara checkpoint and impeded the free flow of traffic.
Raid
  1. At 07:30, Israeli forces raided Deir Istiya and summoned Mahmoud Tayel Yusef to report to Israeli Intelligence for questioning.

JERICHO

Military Checkpoints
  1. Israeli forces continue to intensify its restrictions at Al-Hamra checkpoint set up along the road connecting Jericho and Nablus District.
Raid

At 00:50, Israeli forces raided Jericho city, stormed several merchant shops and 2 homes then confiscated surveillance camera footage tapes then withdrew at 02:05.

Detention

At 18:55, Israeli forces positioned in Al-Marshahat area located in south Jericho detained 4 residents: Ali Yusef Hassan Kharabshah, Abdallah Suliman Hassan Kharabshah, Eyad Yusef Hassan Kharabshah and Hassan Suliman Hassan Kharabshah {all are residents of Ein Al-Sultan camp in Jericho}.

BETHLEHEM

Closure
  1. The Israeli army continues to close roads to An Nu’man village, with the exception of the road leading to the Wall gate in the south-eastern area of the village.
  2. Since 15 September 2007, the Israel army has prevented civilians from accessing or staying on 22 dunumes of confiscated land in Al Mazmuriya area in Beit Sahur and Bethlehem cities.
Closure of main Roads

(i) The Israeli army continues to close the Beit Jala-Wadi Ahmed road; a road between Um Tuba and Al-Jass ; a road between Um Tuba and Khilat Nu’man: a road between Um Tuba and the wall; a road between Al-Khas village and the wall; the 2 by pass roads located south of Al-Walaja; a road between Talita Qumi and Nazlat Al-Sider in Beit Jala; the eastern road of Al-Khader; the road between Al-Khader and Beit Jala ; Wadi Rahal road near “Ifrat” settlement ,the road between Al-Khader and road #60 which lead to the eastern neighbourhoods of Bethlehem; a road leading to Wadi Rahal, and a road east of Beit Fajjar town with dirt mounds.
(ii) Since May 8th 2013, Israeli forces closed the road connecting Al-Carmisan area in Beit Jalla and Al-Walaja with a steel gate and barbed wires.
(iii) Since 10:45 on September 8th 2015, Israeli forces closed the agricultural road located in Arab Al-Rashaydeh village located near “Malee Amous” settlement with dirt mounds.
(iv) At 14:50 on November 28th 2015, Israeli forces closed the entrance of Um Al-Raqaba area located in Al-Khader with cement blocks.
(v) At 09:15 on February 16th 2016, Israeli forces closed the bypass road connecting Za’tara and Ush Al-Ghurab area located in east Beit Sahur town with earth mounds.
(vi) On February 25th 2016, Israeli forces closed the steel gate entrance leading to Um Al-Rakaba area located in Al-Khader.

Flying Checkpoints

(i) At 20:55, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint at the west entrance of Beit Fajjar, detained 2 residents then withdrew at 23:25.
(ii) At 23:55, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint at the entrance of Beit Jallah, temporarily detained 2 residents: Moath Sa’ed Al-Din Shubaki and Hisham Ahmad Shihadeh Khalifah and released them at a later time then withdrew at 02:00.

Detention

(i) At 15:35, Israeli forces detained the child Mohammad Waleed Thawabteh (16 years old) {A resident of Beit Fajjar} as he was reporting to Israeli Intelligence for questioning based on a prior summon.
(ii) At 19:30, Israeli forces detained Nimr Khaled Shakarneh (A resident of Nihalin village) as he was reporting to Israeli Intelligence for questioning based on a prior summon.
(iii) At 20:20, Israeli forces positioned at Container Checkpoint detained Hamza Basil Zidat (a Resident of Bani Na’im).
(iv) Israeli forces positioned at the west entrance of Beit Fajjar detained 2 residents: Shain Mustafa Ibrahim Shaheen (17 years old) and Rami Ali Issa Taqatqa

HEBRON

Closure

(i) The Israeli army continues to close Al-Shuhada’ Street, Al-Sahleh and Khuzq Al-Far areas, as well as the old gold market in Hebron’s Old City. In addition to closing the entrance to Al-Qeisi neighbourhood, the Israeli army continues to close the entrances to the area of Al-Hisba (the fruits and vegetables market) with an electronic gate; Al-Laban Market also remains closed.
(ii) Since 05 January 2009, the Israeli army has closed the area located along the Green Line south of the town of Yatta. Having seized land for Wall construction, the Israeli army evicted the Palestinian residents and denied them access to the area.

Closure of main Roads

(i) The Israeli army continues to prohibit Palestinian vehicles from travelling along the old Al-Shalala Street leading to Hebron’s Old City.
(ii) The Israeli army continues to close the bypass road which connects Bani Na’im and Zif village junction with dirt mounds.
(iii) The Israeli army continues to close the entrance to Beit Ummar located near the local cemetery with dirt mounds.

Detention

(i) At dawn on February 29th 2016, Israeli forces detained Fadi Mohammad Ghanimat during their raid into Surif town as mentioned in the previous report.
(ii) On February 29th 2016, Israeli forces detained Issa Amro (a resident of Hebron city).

GAZA STRIP

NORTHERN GAZA

Closure of Crossing Points

Beit Hanun (Erez) is open for the passage of critical patients, journalists, NGO staff, businessmen and passengers travelling abroad through Al-Karama crossing with previous coordination.

Attack

(i) At 09:30, Israeli Naval vessels opened fire towards Palestinian fishing boats off the shores of Al-Sudaniya area in west Beit Lahiya and then detained 9 fishermen including a child and confiscated a fishing boat.
(ii) At 13:00, Israeli forces positioned behind the Green Line opened fire towards agricultural land in North east Beit Lahiya and as a result injured a resident.

Detention

(i) On February 23rd 2016, Israeli forces positioned at Beit Hanun (Erez) crossing detained Majd Jawad Mohammad Awidat (A resident of Gaza city).
(ii) Israeli forces detained 9 fishermen including a child: Khamis Suhiel Fadil Bakr (17 years old), Majid Fadil Hassan Bakr, Imran Majid Fadil Bakr, Mohammad Ziyad Hassan Bakr, Khalil Juhar Bakr, Fadi Suhiel Fadil Bakr, Yusra Nafith Al-Akhsham and Mohammad Nizar Mustafa Bakr.

GAZA

Closure of Crossing Points

(i) Al-Muntar (Karni) Crossing is closed. Beginning on 02 March 2011, the Crossing has been effectively closed following a unilateral Israeli decision.
(ii) Al-Shija’iya (Nahal ‘Oz) Crossing is closed. Beginning on 04 January 2010, the Crossing has closed following a unilateral Israeli decision.

Attack

At 13:00, Israeli forces positioned behind the Green Line opened fire towards several farmers on agricultural land in east Jahir Ad-Dik town located in south east Gaza City.

CENTRAL GAZA

Attack

At 15:00, Israeli forces positioned behind the Green Line opened fire towards agricultural land in east Al Maghazi camp.

KHAN YUNIS

Attack

At 15:55, Israeli forces positioned behind the Green Line opened fire towards agricultural land in east Khan Yunis city.

RAFAH

Closure of Crossing Points

(i) Yasser ‘Arafat International Airport remains closed.
(ii) Rafah (Al ‘Awdah) Crossing is closed
(iii) Sufa Crossing is closed
(iv) Karm Abu Salem (Karem Shalom) Crossing is open for the entry of tourist and foreign diplomats and the entry of Humanitarian assistance and construction material funded by UNRWA.
