Daily Violations Report February 17th 2016

WEST BANK

JERUSALEM

Closure

(i) On February 16th 2016, the Israeli army, intensified their restrictions at the entrance to Jerusalem city, set up several flying checkpoints on the main road leading to the city and prevented worshipers under the age of 50 from conducting prayers at Al-Aqsa mosque compound which forced residents to conduct prayers near checkpoints located outside Al-Aqsa mosque compound.

(ii) The Israeli army continues to close the ‘demarcation area’ along the Wall in the area surrounding occupied East Jerusalem and restricts access to local residents as well as to civilians holding special permits. 

(iii) The Israeli army continues to impose a blockade and deny civilian access to a hill between Biddu and Beit Iksa villages.

Closure of main Roads

(i) The Israeli army continues to close with cement blocks and dirt mounds the entrance to Jaba’ village. 

(ii) The Israeli army continues to close with an iron gate the eastern entrance to Beit Iksa village and forces civilians to access Jerusalem city through Qalandiya checkpoint.  

Raid
  1. At 15:45, Israeli forces raided Hizma village and temporarily detained Odeh Askar then released him at a later time.
  2. At 21:30, Israeli forces raided Abu Dis, clashed with several residents then withdrew at 22:30.
  3. At 02:30, Israeli forces raided Al-Qabiba village, served a military order for the demolition of 2 homes owned by the families of Omar Mohammad Amro and Mansour Al-Shawamra {both were killed by Israeli forces} and detained a residents during which they clashed with Israeli forces  and then withdrew at 03:45.
  4. At 04:00, Israeli forces raided Beit Duqqu village, stormed and searched several homes then withdrew at 04:50.
  5. At 04:45, Israeli forces Qutna village and detained a resident.
Attack
  1. At 17:45, Israeli forces positioned near the entrance of Al-Eisawiya village fired stun and tear gas grenades towards several residents for alleged stoning.
  2. At 20:40, Israeli forces positioned near Hizma village in Jerusalem fired stun and tear gas grenades towards several residents for alleged stoning.
Detention
  1. On February 15th 2016, Israeli forces detained Tasneem Taysir Abu Ramoz in Jabal Al-Mukabir neighbourhood for allegedly finding a knife in her bag {as alleged by the Israeli Military}.
  2. On February 15th 2016, Israeli forces detained the child Ahmad Ashir a resident of Al-Tur neighbourhood.
  3. On February 16th 2016, Israeli forces detained Nour Abu Irmeleh (14 years old) {A resident of Al-Eisawiya}.
  4. At 11:00, Israeli forces detained Saleem Ahmad Mohammad Wald Ali (A resident of Sur Bahar village) for allegedly finding a knife in his possession.
  5. Israeli forces detained Mohammad Yasser Al-Shawamra in Al-Qabiba village.
  6. Israeli forces detained Ma’moun Ismail Shamasneh in Qutna village.
House Demolition
  1. At 13:15, Israeli forces stormed Jabal Al-Baba area in Al-Eizariya and served military orders for the demolition of several homes and a livestock shed owned by several Bedouin families.
Obstruction of Places of Worship
  • At 09:00, Israeli settlers under the protection of Israeli Military and Police forces stormed Al-Aqsa mosque compound in the old city of Jerusalem and provoked worshipers.
Closure of Wall Gates
  1. The Israeli army continues to close with cement blocks the Wall gate in Abu Dis town.
  2. The Israeli army continues to deny civilian access through the Wall gate on Al-Shayyah road in the area between Al-Sawahira Al-Sharqiya and Al-Slewahira Al-Gharbiya villages, only allowing civilians holding Jerusalem IDs to cross, after subjecting them to thorough searches using electronic devices.

RAMALLAH & AL BIREH

Closure of main Roads
  1. The Israeli army continues to close the entrances to Sinjil village well as the junction to Kafr Malik and ‘Ein Samiya villages
  2. On December 15th 2015, Israeli forces closed the West entrance of Al-Labban Al-Gharbi village with cement blocks.
  3. On January 27th 2016, Israeli forces closed Beit Ur Al-Tahta village junction which leads to road (443) with cement blocks.
  4. At 24:00 on February 14th 2016, Israeli forces closed the main road located near “Bet El” settlement which leads to Al-Jalazoun camp {After alleged shooting towards Bet El settlement {as alleged by the Israeli military}.
Flying Checkpoints
  1. At 17:40, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint at the entrance of Abboud then searched residents and vehicles until 23:10.
Raid
  1. At 11:10 and again at 04:05, Israeli forces raided Al-Bireh city, stormed and searched a home after damaging the front home entrance using explosive detonation and detained a National Security force officer.
  2. At 19:30, Israeli forces raided Al-Terih village and occupied a home owned by Mohammad Hussein Mahmoud Mohammad  and converted its rooftop into a military post then installed a military checkpoint at the entrance of the village then withdrew at 23:10.
  3. At 21:35, Israeli forces raided Ein Sinya village, stormed a gas station and temporarily detained the employees inside the station then released them after inspecting their identification cards.
  4. At 04:20, Israeli forces raided Ramallah city and served a military order for the demolition of the family home of Shadi Mohamad Al-Khaseeb {who was killed by Israeli forces} and detained a resident then withdrew at 06:15.
Attack
  1. At 10:30, Israeli forces positioned in the vicinity of “Pesagout” settlement located in the east area of Al-Bireh city fired stun and tear gas grenades towards several residents for alleged stoning.
  2. At 21:45, Israeli forces positioned near the entrance of Al-Jalazoun camp fired stun and tear gas grenades towards several residents for alleged stoning.
  3. At 23:00, Israeli forces positioned near “Al-Mahkama” checkpoint located in North Al-Bireh city fired stun and tear gas grenades towards several residents for alleged stoning and as a result suffocated 4 residents from tear gas inhalation.
Detention
  1. Israeli forces detained Mahmoud Salem Al-Badawi in Al-Bireh city.
  2. Israeli forces detained Mahmoud Maher Al-Qadi Ramallah city.
Destruction of Property
  1. At 22:00, Israeli forces levelled a plot of land located in Deir Ibzi’ village near “Doliv” settlement and uprooted several Olive trees then withdrew at 00:55.

JENIN

Closure
  1. On December 24th 2015, Israeli forces closed off the area  {900m wide and 100m long} along the main road connecting Jenin and Tulkarem leading to south Ya’bad and installed a barbed wire fence around the area  and declared the area a closed military zone.
Closure of main Roads
  1. The Israeli army continues to close with dirt mounds the road leading to the town of ‘Arraba east of the illegal settlement Dotan and the south entrance of Ya’bad.
Flying Checkpoints
  1. At 19:00, Israeli forces set up 3 checkpoints along Arabba , Marka and Al-Jabra village junctions then searched residents and vehicles until 22:30.
  2. At 20:10, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint in the area between Al-Yamoun and Al-Arqa village then searched residents and vehicles until 21:00.
  3. At 07:00, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint near Hadad Al-Siyahiya village then searched residents and vehicles.
Raid
  1. At dawn on February 16th 2016, Israeli forces raided Arraba and detained a child.
  2. At 21:10, Israeli forces raided Al-Jamlah village until 22:20.
  3. At 04:00, Israeli forces raided Qabatiya village, stormed and searched several residents and detained 3 residents.
Detention
  1. Israeli forces detained  Mohammad Bassam Shafi’ Hamad (17 years old)
  2. Israeli forces detained 3 residents: Raed Abu Ma’la, Ma’moun Abu Ma’la and Mohammad Ziyad Abu Odeh in Qabatiya.
Destruction of Property
  1. At 13:40, Israeli forces stormed Barta’a Al-Sharqiya village and served military order for the demolition of 6 merchant dens: Barta’a gas station, A Oven manufacturing shop, a clay pot shop, a Poultry shop, a vehicle repair shop and Granit Marble factory.
Closure of Wall Gates
  1. Israeli forces continue too close the wall gate and only allow those holding special permits to enter through it.

QALQILIYA

Closure of Roads
  1. Israeli forces continue to close with cement blocks agricultural roads east of Azzun town. In addition to closing the gate installed since the outbreak the second Intifada, the Israeli army continues to close with dirt mounds the eastern entrance to Kafr Qaddum village.
  2. Since 10:40 on September 1st 2015, Israeli forces closed an agricultural road leading to Far’ata village which is located near “Gillad” settlement with a steel Gate.
  3. At 21:25 on February 13th 2016, Israeli forces closed the entrance Aqraba with dirt mounds.
Flying Checkpoints
  1. At 12:00, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint at the entrance of Azzun then searched residents and vehicles.
Raid
  1. At 01:30, Israeli forces raided Qalqiliya until 04:30.
Closure of Wall Gates
  1. The Israeli army continues to restrict access at ‘Azzun ‘Atma Wall gate and impeded the free flow of traffic. The Israeli army continues to close with an iron gate the entrance to the village of Wadi Al- Rasha and to deny civilian access.
  2. The Israeli army allows residents to access the village through Gate #109. Having removed the gate at the entrance to the village of Ras Atiya; the Israeli army only allows students to cross to their schools outside the village through the Habla gate.

NABLUS

Closure
  1. Since December 17th 2013, Israeli forces ordered the closure 500 dunumes of land in Qusra village as a closed military area.
Closure of main Roads
  1. The Israeli army continues to close the northern entrance to Qabalan town; the southern entrances to the town of Jamma’in and the villages of Duma and Qaryut.
  2. At 06:30 on November 22nd 2015, Israeli forces closed the main road connecting Aqraba and Yanoun village with dirt mounds.
  3. On November 29th 2015, Israeli forces closed the entrance of Burin, Awarta and Osirin as well as the agricultural bypass road connecting Aqraba and Qabalan village with dirt mounds.
  4. At 13:00 on December 1st 2015, Israeli forces closed the main road connecting Tel village and the bypass road near “Yitsahar” settlement and installed a steel gate in the area.
  5. At 18:30 on January 19th 2016, Israeli forces closed the main road connecting Huwara and Walada village with dirt mounds.
  6. At 09:00 on February 1st 2016, Israeli forces closed the south steel gate entrance of Jama’in and closed the main road connecting Jama’in and Zieta with dirt mounds.
Military Checkpoints
  1. At 18:20, Israeli forces intensified their restrictions at Beit Fajjar checkpoint and impeded the free flow of traffic until 19:25.
Flying Checkpoints
  1. At 08:15, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint at Qablan junction then searched residents and vehicles until 09:30.
Raid
  1. At dawn on February 16th 2016, Israeli forces raided Zawata village and detained a resident.
  2. At 01:00, Israeli forces raided Assira Al-Shimaliya and detained a resident.
  3. At 01:50, Israeli forces raided Nablus until 03:30.
Detention
  1. At 22:10, Israeli forces positioned at a military post located in Al-Tur hill located in Nablus detained Abboud Munthir Albah for allegedly attempting to detonate a homemade explosive device near the military post.
  2. Israeli forces detained Wafa Mohammad Hafith Alawi in Zawata village.
  3. Israeli forces detained Ma’moun Munir Sawalha in Assirah Al-Shimaliya.
Destruction of Property
  1. At 23:10 on February 15th 2016, approximately 400 Wooden and plastic display stands as well as a Electrical circuit motherboard were destroyed by a fire caused after Israeli forces fired stun and tear gas grenades were fired towards the area during confrontation inside the main market in Nablus.

SALFIT

Closure of main Roads
  1. The Israeli army continues to close with dirt mounds the entrance to two detour roads connecting Marda village to its farmland.
  2. On 15.04.2012, the Israeli army has opened the northern entrance to Salfit city to civilian which was closed since the year 2000 and prevented access from 08:00 until 09:20.
  3. Since 11:00 on July 30th 2012, Israeli forces have closed two roads leading to Abu Nasar and Qatan Al-Jama’ located in western area of Deir Istiya with cement blocks.
Military Checkpoints
  1. Israeli forces intensified their restrictions at Za’tara checkpoint and impeded the free flow of traffic.
Raid
  1. At 00:45, Israeli forces raided Kafl Harris village until 03:30.
  2. At 01:50, Israeli forces raided Deir Ballout, stormed and searched 2 homes, detained a resident then withdrew at 05:00.

JERICHO

Military Checkpoints
  1. Israeli forces continue to intensify its restrictions at Al-Hamra checkpoint set up along the road connecting Jericho and Nablus District.
Flying Checkpoints
  1. At 12:50, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint along road (90) in Al-Oja village then searched residents and vehicles until 13:30.
  2. At 18:45, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint along the Dead Sea junction then searched residents and vehicles until 20:10.
Raid
  1. At 20:30, Israeli forces raided Al-Oja village until 04:00.
  2. At 03:40, Israeli forces raided Fasayil village and stormed 2 homes.
Temporary Detention
  1. At 13:10, Israeli forces positioned at Allenby bridge temporarily detained Mohammad Khaled Salameh (A national Security Force officer) as he was returning from Jordan and then released him at 14:40.

BETHLEHEM

Closure
  1. The Israeli army continues to close roads to An Nu’man village, with the exception of the road leading to the Wall gate in the south-eastern area of the village.
  2. Since 15 September 2007, the Israel army has prevented civilians from accessing or staying on 22 dunumes of confiscated land in Al Mazmuriya area in Beit Sahur and Bethlehem cities.
Closure of main Roads
  1. The Israeli army continues to close the Beit Jala-Wadi Ahmed road; a road between Um Tuba and Al-Jass ; a road between Um Tuba and Khilat Nu’man: a road between Um Tuba and the wall; a road between Al-Khas village and the wall; the 2 by pass roads located south of Al-Walaja; a road between Talita Qumi and Nazlat Al-Sider in Beit Jala; the eastern road of Al-Khader; the road between Al-Khader and Beit Jala  ; Wadi Rahal road near “Ifrat” settlement ,the road between Al-Khader and road #60 which lead to the eastern neighbourhoods of Bethlehem; a road leading to  Wadi Rahal, and a road east of Beit Fajjar town with dirt mounds.
  2. The Israeli army continues to close the road leading to “Newe Daniyyel” settlement and agricultural land in Al-Khader; a road between  Um Tuba and Wadi Al-Hums: Wadi Fukin, Al-Jaba, the Green Line; a road between Za’tara and a detour road, and a road between Taqou and Khirbet Al-Deir with cement blocks.
  3. Since August 2nd 2012, Israeli forces closed a road leading to Beit Jalla.
  4. Since May 8th 2013, Israeli forces closed the road connecting Al-Carmisan area in Beit Jalla and Al-Walaja with a steel gate and barbed wires.
  5. Since June 3rd 2013, the Israeli army closed the road connecting Nihalin and road 60 with dirt mounds.
  6. Since 13:20 on September 29th 2013, the Israeli army closed a road leading to 50 acres of agricultural land in Wadi Salem area in Al-Khadr with dirt mounds.
  7.  Israeli forces closed the main road connecting Surif and Al-Jub’a village with dirt mounds.
  8. On January 28th 2014, Israeli forces closed the steel gate at the entrance of Nihalin { replacing the dirt mounds placed at the entrance since the year 2002} and placed time schedule for opening the gate from 06:00 until 14:00 on a daily bases.
  9. Since 10:45 on September 8th 2015, Israeli forces closed the agricultural road located in Arab Al-Rashaydeh village located near “Malee Amous” settlement with dirt mounds.
Flying Checkpoints
  1. At 08:35 and again at 15:05, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint at the entrance of Dar Salah village located at the east entrance of Beit Sahur then searched residents and vehicles until 15:30
  2. At 18:00, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint at the entrance of Beit Jallah then searched residents and vehicles.
Raid
  1. At 00:30, Israeli forces raided Taqou’ until 00:45.
  2. At 03:45, Israeli forces raided Bethlehem and Al-Duhishseh camp, clashed with several residents and as a result injured Taha Ma’ali then withdrew at 04:40.
Attack
  1. At 07:45 on February 16th 2016 and again at 16:20, Israeli forces positioned near Ayda camp in North Bethlehem fired stun and tear gas grenades towards several residents for alleged stoning.
  2. At 19:25, Israeli forces positioned in Husan village fired stun and tear gas grenades towards several residents for alleged stoning.
  3. At 00:20, Israeli forces positioned near Al-Nashash area located at the south entrance of Bethlehem fired rubber coated steel bullets, stun and tear gas grenades towards several residents for alleged stoning and as a result injured Mohammad Khader Ibrahim Musa.

HEBRON

Closure
  1. The Israeli army continues to close Al-Shuhada’ Street, Al-Sahleh and Khuzq Al-Far areas, as well as the old gold market in Hebron’s Old City. In addition to closing the entrance to Al-Qeisi neighbourhood, the Israeli army continues to close the entrances to the area of Al-Hisba (the fruits and vegetables market) with an electronic gate; Al-Laban Market also remains closed.
  2. Since 05 January 2009, the Israeli army has closed the area located along the Green Line south of the town of Yatta. Having seized land for Wall construction, the Israeli army evicted the Palestinian residents and denied them access to the area.
Closure of main Roads
  1. The Israeli army continues to close the entrances to Al-Thahiriya and Al-Samoa’ towns, Al-‘Arrub refugee camp, and Al-Tuwani and Al-Karmil villages. 
  2. The Israeli army continues to prohibit Palestinian vehicles from travelling along the old Al-Shalala Street leading to Hebron’s Old City.
  3. The Israeli army continues to close all roads leading to Road # 60 as well as detour roads along the settler bypass road leading to Yatta town.
  4. The Israeli army continues to close with dirt mounds a detour road leading to e to Al-Simiya village, the southern entrance of Al-Samou’ and the entrance of Beit Annun with cement blocks.
Raid
  1. At 10:05, Israeli forces raided Hebron until 13:00.
  2. At 13:15, Israeli forces raided Sa’ir, clashed with several residents, stormed the family homes of 2 residents killed by Israeli forces and took photographs of the local cemetery then withdrew at 04:50.
Attack
  1. At 16:30, Israeli forces positioned near Al-Adasiyah village located between Sa’ir and Bani Na’im fired stun and tear gas grenades towards several residents for alleged stoning.
House Demolition
  1. At 12:55, Israeli forces stormed Deir Sammit village and served a military order for the demolition of a home owned by the family of Mohammad Al-Haroub {A resident killed by Israeli forces} and  placed an implementation date for February 21st 2016.
GAZA STRIP

ALL DISTRICTS

  1. At 19:00 on August 26th 2014, Palestinian Gunmen and the Israeli military agreed to a cease fire agreement (brokered by the Arab Republic of Egypt) which includes the opening of border crossings to allow the entry of emergency supplies and humanitarian goods as well as construction material and agreed to increase the fishing limit to 6 nautical miles with possibility of  increase to 12 nautical miles by the end of the year and to decrease the Military area to 100 meters, allow freedom of movement and a halt to targeted killings and assassinations and negotiations will be held for discussion on rebuilding the sea port and airports in the coming month.
  2. The Israeli Military broke the cease fire agreement by opening fire from their positions behind the Green Line towards North Gaza and Khan Yunis.

NORTHERN GAZA

Closure of Crossing Points
  1. Beit Hanun (Erez) is  open for the passage of critical patients, journalists, NGO staff, businessmen and passengers travelling abroad through Al-Karama crossing with previous coordination.
Attack
  1. At 12:00, Israeli forces positioned behind the Green Line opened fire towards agricultural land in North Beit Lahiya.

GAZA

Closure of Crossing Points
  1. Al-Muntar (Karni) Crossing is closed. Beginning on 02 March 2011, the Crossing has been effectively closed following a unilateral Israeli decision.
  2. Al-Shija’iya (Nahal ‘Oz) Crossing is closed. Beginning on 04 January 2010, the Crossing has closed following a unilateral Israeli decision.

KHAN YUNIS

Attack
  1. At 09:00, Israeli forces positioned behind the Green Line opened fire towards agricultural land in east Khaz’a.

RAFAH

Closure of Crossing Points
  1. Yasser ‘Arafat International Airport remains closed.
  2. Rafah (Al ‘Awdah) Crossing is closed
  3. Sufa Crossing is closed
  4. Karm Abu Salem (Karem Shalom) Crossing is  open for the entry of tourist and foreign diplomats and the entry of Humanitarian assistance and construction material funded by UNRWA.
Detention
  1. At 16:30, Israeli forces detained 3 unidentified individuals as they attempted to climb the border fence from Rafah into Israel.
