Dr. Saeb Erekat on the Recent Israeli Approvals of Illegal Settlements in the Occupied State of Palestine

The Israeli government continues with its plan to bury all the chances of a political settlement by announcing the approval of 1,122 new illegal settlement units in 22 illegal colonial-settlements in Occupied Palestine.

The Israeli colonial-settlement plans have been encouraged by the U.S. Administration. President Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital did not only disqualify the U.S. from playing any constructive role towards achieving peace, but it provided the extremist Israeli government with an opportunity and a green light to speed up their plans of the dispossession of the Palestinian people.

In addition to colonial-settlements, other corrosive measures have been implemented by Israel; including its policies of forcible displacement and transfer, land expropriation, daily attacks by Israeli forces and settlers, collective punishment, and the mass incarceration of our people, including of minors. 

The Israeli government won’t succeed. The Palestinian people will remain steadfast in their homeland. This Sunday and Monday the Palestine Central Council will discuss several recommendations towards holding Israeli accountable to advance with the realization of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
