MONTHLY SUMMARY OF ISRAELI VIOLATIONS

01 January 2021 – 31 January 2021

The following summary tables and overview of events survey hostile Israeli activities during the period 01 January 2021 to 31 January 2021. The report includes a summary table of events, classified by type, throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip, in addition to a comparative table surveying events over the past three months. The survey is compiled from the Daily Situation Reports of the Palestinian Monitoring Group (PMG) of the Negotiations Affairs Department (NAD) of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). The PMG monitors ground conditions in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, including Israeli and Palestinian violations. The information reported through the PMG process represents data available at the time of distribution only. 

 

Sample of Israeli Violations during the Month of  January  2021

01/01/2021: the Israeli occupation forces fired rubber-coated metal bullets, stun grenades and tear gas in the Jabal Al-Shorfa area in the village of Deir Jarir at the citizens participating in a demonstration against the confiscation of land and settler attacks, wounding 3 civilians (2 - one of them a child, as they were injured): Alaa Ezzat Dar Ali, 16 years old (as a result of being hit by a teargas canister), Izzat Kamal Dar Ali (as a result of being hit by a teargas canister), and Ahmed Muhammad Alawi (as a result of being ran over by a Israeli military vehicle) and a number of civilians suffocated due to inhaling tear gas. 01/01/2021: the Israeli occupation forces fired rubber-coated metal bullets, stun grenades and tear gas, at the demonstrators in protest against the closure of the village entrance near the eastern (closed) entrance in the village of Kafr Qaddum,, under the pretext that it had been pelted with stones, wounding 18 civilians and left several others suffocated due to tear gas inhalation. 01/01/2021: the Israeli occupation forces, present in the vicinity of the "Eyal" crossing, north of Qalqilya city, fired rubber-coated metal bullets, stun grenades and tear gas canisters at the citizens, under the pretext that they had been thrown with stones, wounding the child:: Hamza Zahran, 15 years old., and wounding a number of citizens - suffocated due to tear gas inhalation. 05/01/2021: the Israeli occupation forces positioned near the "Kfar Etzion" settlement junction opened fire towards and killed Ahed Abd al-Rahman Qawqas Khalil, 25 years old - a resident of the town of Beit Ummar. 07/01/2021: the Israeli occupation forces positioned near the northern entrance to Jericho opened fire towards Obaidah Samir al-Tawil, 24 years old (with special needs) - residents of Jerusalem wounding him - with injuries in the thigh, and he was taken to an Israeli hospital for treatment. 07/01/2021:  the Israeli occupation forces fired live bullets and rubber-coated metal bullets, stun grenades and tear gas at the citizens during their raid into the town of Qabatiya, under the pretext that they had been thrown with stones while they stormed and searched a number of houses, which resulted in the injury of Amin Muhammad Tawfiq Zakarneh with a leg wound. 07/01/2021: the Israeli occupation forces fired live bullets, metal-coated rubber, stun and tear gas canisters towards citizens, during their raid into Dheisheh camp, under the pretext that they were thrown with stones as they stormed a number of houses, wounding Islam Muhammad Ratib Sabateen. 08/01/2021: the Israeli occupation forces positioned in the Rukayz area, southeast of Yatta, fired rubber-coated metal bullets, stun grenades and tear gas canisters towards citizens participating in a demonstration against the confiscation of land for settlement projects then physically assaulted several citizens and as a result injured an elderly citizen who was hospitalized with contusions. 08/01/2021:  the child: Muhammad Yusef Abu Aram, 16, was injured as a result of the explosion of a suspicious object left over from the Israeli occupation army near the area of ​​Jinba, south of Yatta. 11/01/2021:  the Israeli occupation forces in charge of guarding the separation wall near the village of Faroun fired at a number of workers while trying to enter to work inside the Green Line, wounding 6 civilians, and they were subsequently admitted to the government hospital in Tulkarm for treatment. 11/01/2021: the Israeli occupation forces closed Tel Rumeida neighborhood, Al-Sahla area, and Al-Shuhada Street in the Old City of Hebron, and handed the Palestine TV crew d a decision to close while they were broadcasting this morning's program directly from the area, and prevented them from working by force, in conjunction with the attack of a group of Settlers protect the occupation forces on the crew. 12/01/2021: Sanad Khalil Muhammad Al-Rawashdeh - a residents of Al-Samou 'town, was injured (amputation in the hand), as a result of the explosion of a suspicious object left by the occupation forces. 13/01/2021:  the child: Obaidah Muhammad Faris Al-Wahsh, 13, was injured and broken in the foot (residents of Al-Yamoun town), while he was riding a motorcycle, as a result of being run over by a military vehicle of the occupation forces while on patrol in Zbuba village. 15/01/2021: the Israeli occupation forces fired stun and tear gas canisters towards citizens demonstrating against the confiscation of lands in favor of settlement projects and against settler attacks near Al-Rukayz area, southeast of Yatta and as a result injured Siham Atiya Abu Aram after a tear gas canister struck her leg. 15/01/2021: the Israeli occupation forces fired stun and tear gas canisters towards demonstrators in protest against the closure of the village entrance near the eastern (closed) entrance in the village of Kafr Qaddum, for alleged stoning and as a result wounded 3 citizens  (including a paramedic) Qusay Aql and left several others suffocated from tear gas inhalation. 16/01/2021:  the Israeli occupation forces fired rubber-coated metal bullets, stun grenades and tear gas, near the eastern (closed) entrance in the village of Kafr Qaddum, towards citizens participating in a demonstration against the closure of the village entrance, and as a result wounded 4 citizens, and left several others suffocated from tear gas inhalation. 17/01/2021: a group of settlers positioned near the outskirts of Madama village, and threw stones at the citizens' homes, which led to smashing the windows of the house of the citizen: Mashhour Muhammad Qat, and wounding his daughter, 11-year-old, with injuries to the head, and they tried to kidnap her before local residents were able to chase them away and were taken to the government hospital in Nablus for treatment. 19/01/2021: the Israeli occupation forces in charge of guarding the separation wall near the town of Habla fired at a number of workers while they were trying to enter to work inside the Green Line and as a result wounded 4 citizens:  Muhammad Bassam Walweel - a resident of Jinsout village, Jawdat Walid Abu Hamed - a resident of Jinsafut village, Sami Abd al-Rahim Abd al-Rahman - a resident of the village of Jinsafut, and Ahmed Muhammad Ahmad Aqara -a resident of the city of Qalqilya.. 20/01/2021: the prisoner: Maher Deeb Ibrahim Sa`sa, 45 years old, resident of Qalqilya, was killed in Rimonim prison due to Israeli medical negligence as he was suffering from diseases and health problems. 21/01/2021:  during their raid into the city of Al-Bireh, the Israeli occupation forces fired rubber-coated metal bullets, stun grenades and tear gas towards several residents for alleged stoning and as a result wounded a journalist: Muhammad Turkman during his coverage of the confrontations. 22/01/2021: the Israeli occupation forces fired rubber-coated metal bullets, stun and tear gas canisters towards the citizens participating in a demonstration against the confiscation of land for settlement projects in the Jabal Al-Shorfa area in the village of Deir Jarir , which resulted in the wounding of a child: Muhammad Abdel Fattah Maali, 14 years old., and the injury of a number of citizens - cases of suffocation due to tear gas inhalation. 24/01/2021: The two civilians wounded, during clashes with the occupation forces in the village of Deir Abu Mishaal, are: Muhammad Yusef Atta, 17, and Mahmoud Hussein Odeh Al-Barghouti. 29/01/2021: the Israeli occupation forces positioned near the eastern (closed) entrance in the village of Kafr Qaddum fired rubber-coated metal bullets, stun grenades and tear gas, towards demonstrators protesting against the closure of the village entrances for alleged stoning and as a result wounding a citizen, and leaving several others suffocated from tear gas inhalation. 31/01/2021: Israeli occupation forces positioned near the junction of Haris village opened fire towards and killed the child: Atallah Muhammad Harb Rayan, 17 years old - Injuries	93	2	95	A total of 95 injuries were reported in the month of January 2021 {93 Palestinians in the West Bank and 2 in the Gaza Strip). Including 6 children, 2 Women 1 Paramedic and 1 Journalists.
Attacks	173	131	304	A total of 304 attacks were reported to have taken place during the month of January 2021 (173 in the West Bank and 131 in the Gaza Strip). The Israeli military carried out 108 attacks from Israeli military post on civilian homes and property, 106 from Military checkpoints towards Palestinian residents and vehicle and 67 during raids into Civilian populated areas. In addition, Israeli navy vessels carried out 23 attacks on Palestinian fishermen.

The majority of arrests took place in the districts of Jerusalem (152); Ramallah (74); Jenin (56); Tubas (8),Tulkarem (21); Qalqiliya (27); Nablus (38); Salfit (7); Jericho (5); Bethlehem (21); Hebron (48), North Gaza (2), and Gaza (1). Among those arrested by the Israeli military were 20 children, 3 Woman,2 University students and 1 Security Force Officers.
Deportation	6	_	6	During  the month of January 2021 Israeli Authorities deported 6 residents from their place of residence which included the following: 05/01/2021: the Israeli occupation authorities in Jerusalem issued a decision to deport the citizen: Issam Najib (an employee in the Islamic Endowments Department) - a residents of Jerusalem, for a period of 6 months from Al-Aqsa Mosque and its entrances, as a condition for his release after they detained him earlier. 17/01/2021:  the Israeli occupation authorities in Jerusalem issued an order to ban Jihad Nasser Qus - a residents of the Old City of Jerusalem, from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque for a period of 1 week, as a condition for his release after he was detained earlier. 19/01/2021: the occupation authorities in Jerusalem issued a decision to deport the citizen: Rami Saleh Al-Fakhoury - a resident of the Old City of Jerusalem, for a week from Al-Aqsa Mosque, as a condition for his release after detaining him earlier. 26/01/2021: the Israeli occupation authorities in Jerusalem issued an order to deport the citizen: Rami Al-Fakhoury - a resident of Jerusalem, for a period of 6 months from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque. 27/01/2021:  the Israeli occupation authorities in Jerusalem issued a decision to deport 2 citizens: Yazan Taqash and Samed Asali (both are Security guards at Al-Aqsa Mosqu and residents of Jerusalem} preventing them from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque for a period of 1 week.

Home Demolition	16		16	On 02/01/2021, the Israeli occupation forces demolished a house owned by the citizen: Salim Salameh, in Bidya town, under the pretext that it was not licensed, and that it was located in the area classified (C) under the Israeli control. On 07/01/2021, ,the Israeli occupation forces demolished 6 homes near Beit Iksa, the Bedouin family of Al-Dawahik, including a house (consisting of 3 mobile homes - caravans) owned by the citizen: Khalil Abu Dahuk, under the pretext of not being licensed. On 07/01/2021, the Israeli occupation authorities in the Ras al-Amud neighborhood in Jerusalem, forced the citizen: Hatem Shaheen al-Salaymeh, to demolish part of his house, after notifying him earlier, in order to avoid paying heavy fines in case the occupation authorities carried out the demolition, under the pretext of not being licensed. On 14/01/2021, the occupation authorities in the town of Beit Hanina forced the citizen: Fawaz Abu Hammad, to personally demolish his house, after notifying him earlier, in order to avoid paying heavy fines in the event that the occupation authorities carry out the demolition, under the pretext of not having a permit. On 25/01/2021, the Israeli occupation forces demolished in the village of Al-Walaja, a two-floor house (under construction) owned by: Muhammad Abdul-Latif Al-Jayyousi, under the pretext of not having a permit. On 26/01/2021,  the Israeli occupation forces demolished in the Burj area in the northern Jordan Valley, 2 storage dens used for housing, in addition to 4 dens used for raising livestock owned by the two citizens: Mustafa Khalil and Radwan and his brother Radwan. On 26/01/2021, the Israeli occupation forces demolished in the Hammamat Al-Maleh area in the northern Jordan Valley, a tent used for housing, in addition to a livestock den, owned by the citizen: Burhan Ali Zamil Daraghmeh, and seized it. On 27/01/2021, the Israeli occupation forces demolished a house owned by the citizen: Ismail Musa Sarai`ah, in addition to a livestock den used to raise sheep in the Umm Al-Rayyan area in the wilderness of the town of Al-Sawahra. On 28/01/2021, the Israeli occupation forces demolished 2 of the houses in addition to 3 densw owned by citizens: Ibrahim Abu Arouj and Ismail Sawarka in the Red Valley area near the village of Fasayil, under the pretext of their proximity to a military training area.
Attacks on Religious Sites	28	-	28	On 23/01/2021, , the occupation Police stormed the Dome of the Rock Mosque in the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque, and prevented the Reconstruction Committee staff from restoring the tiles inside it (for the second day in a row), which has been ongoing for two weeks. On 25/01/2021, the Israeli occupation Police stormed the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque, and prevented the staff of the Reconstruction Committee from maintenance and restoration work inside the Al-Qibli prayer hall and the Dome of the Rock Mosque, in addition to preventing the entry of materials needed for this (for the third day in a row), which is a continuous work to maintain tiles, electricity and marble.
Settlement Activity	7	-	7	On 31/12/2020, the Israeli occupation forces set up a barbed wire fence, surveillance cameras, and a gate in the Ain Sakut area in the northern Jordan Valley, and prevented citizens from entering it, on the pretext that it is a natural reserve. On 10/01/2021, the Israeli occupation forces carried out excavation work in Al-Buraq Square (the western wall of Al-Aqsa Mosque) and near Al-Mughrabi Gate (one of the gates leading to Al-Aqsa Mosque) in the Old City of Jerusalem.  On 13/01/2021,  the occupation authorities approved a plan to build 530 new settlement housing units, including (400 settlement housing units in Gilo settlement south of Jerusalem, and 130 new settlement housing units in Ramat Shlomo settlement north of Jerusalem) Jerusalem), within the territories occupied in 1967. On 20/01/2021, the occupation authorities issued tenders to build 2572 new settlement housing units in 7 settlements (of which 460 housing units are in the settlements established in the Jerusalem Governorate, and 2112 housing units in the settlements established in the rest of the West Bank governorates), and among the settlements that will be built It includes the settlements of "Pisgat Zeev" and "Har Homa" in Jerusalem, within the territories occupied in 1967. Land Levelling	6	-	6	On 03/01/2021, the Israeli occupation forces swept away an area of ​​the citizens 'agricultural lands, which are threatened with confiscation, in Khallet Hassan, which is affiliated with the town of Bidya, and uprooted olive and grape trees, owned by the heirs: Muhammad Salim Odeh, Yusef Salim Salama, and Abdul Rahim Salim Salama.  On 04/01/2021, the Israeli occupation forces swept away an area of ​​land around the entrance near of the village of Deir Nizam owned by the citizen: Raafat Hassan Muhammad Hassan. On 06/01/2021, the Israeli occupation forces swept away an area of ​​citizens' lands in the area of ​​Khallat Al-Abhar, west of Deir Ballut, planted about 3,400 trees and olive seedlings owned by citizens: Nesfat Ezzat Musa, Ghazi Hosni Musa, Omar Abdullah Musa, and Muhammad Musa. On 07/01/2021, the Israeli occupation forces swept away an area of ​​Palestinian agricultural land in the town of Kafr al-Dik, west of the town. Killings

A total of 5 residents were killed by Israeli forces during the month of January 2021 {5 in the West Bank and 0 in Gaza}:

• 15/01/2021: Ahed Abd al-Rahman Qawqas Khalil, 25 years old - a resident of the town of Beit Ummar was killed by Israeli occupation forces after opening fire towards him near the Kfar Etzion settlement junction.
• 20/01/2021: On the evening of 20/01/2021, the prisoner: Maher Deeb Ibrahim Sa`sa, 45 years old, resident of Qalqilya, was killed in Rimonim prison due to Israeli medical negligence as he was suffering from diseases and health problems.
• 24/01/2021:Fouad Sebti Joudeh {48 years old - resident of Iraq Al-Tayeh village, Nablus governorate} died as a result of suffering a heart attack after inhaling the tear gas fired by the Israeli occupation forces at the gate of the Separation Wall near the village of Faroun, south of Tulkarm.
• 26/01/2021: Israeli occupation forces positioned near the junction of Haris village opened fire towards and killed the child: Atallah Muhammad Harb Rayan, 17 years old - a resident of Qarawat Bani Hassan.
• 31/01/2021: Muhammad Hussein Muhammad Amr, 35 years old - resident of Halhul town in Hebron governorate was shot and killed by the Israeli occupation forces at the junction of the colony of "Kfar Etzion".

Injuries

A total of 95 injuries were reported in the month of January 2021 {93 Palestinians in the West Bank and 2 in the Gaza Strip).

Including 6 children, 2 Women 1 Paramedic and 1 Journalists.

Arrests

During the month of January 2021, the Israeli military arrested 461 Palestinians (458 in the West Bank and 3 in the Gaza Strip). The majority of arrests took place in the districts of Jerusalem (152); Ramallah (74); Jenin (56); Tubas (8),Tulkarem (21); Qalqiliya (27); Nablus (38); Salfit (7); Jericho (5); Bethlehem (21); Hebron (48), North Gaza (2), and Gaza (1). Among those arrested by the Israeli military were 20 children, 3 Woman,2 University students and 1 Security Force Officers.

 

Especially on Fridays, the Israeli military continues to intensify restrictions at checkpoints located at the entrances of Jerusalem, and to restrict entrance to the Al Aqsa Mosque compound in the old city of Jerusalem, preventing worshippers from accessing the Mosque. At the Qalandiya checkpoint north of Jerusalem, the Israeli military continues to prevent PNA registered civilian vehicles from crossing the checkpoint towards Ar Ram and Qalandiya as well as Dahiyat al Bareed. The checkpoint is overcrowded daily, particularly during rush hours, due to intensified restrictions and search measures applied by Israeli troops. During the month of December 2020,he Israeli military also continued to intensify restrictions at the Tayasir checkpoint and Al Hamra junction checkpoint leading to the Jordan Valley area, only allowing access to civilians whose IDs indicate District of Jericho residence or others holding special access permits. The Israeli military installed 482 flying checkpoints in January 2021 (compared with 486 flying checkpoints in December 2020 and 436 flying checkpoints in November 2020 and as a result restricted the free access and movement of residents, merchant supplies and agricultural goods.

The Israeli military set up 482 Flying checkpoints in the month of January  2021 and searched Palestinian civilians and vehicles in and around Palestinian residential areas in the districts of Jerusalem (17); Ramallah (44);Tubas (1); Jenin (6); Tulkarem (1); Qalqiliya (72); Nablus (35); Salfit (58); Jericho (92); Bethlehem (88) and Hebron (68).

A total of 304 attacks were reported to have taken place during the month of January 2021 (173 in the West Bank and 131 in the Gaza Strip).

The Israeli military carried out 108 attacks from Israeli military post on civilian homes and property,106 from Military checkpoints towards Palestinian residents and vehicle and 67 during raids into Civilian populated areas. In addition, Israeli navy vessels carried out 23 attacks on Palestinian fishermen..

Attacks on residential areas in West Bank  and Gaza districts

• On 07/01/2021, ,the Israeli occupation forces demolished 6 homes near Beit Iksa, the Bedouin family of Al-Dawahik, including a house (consisting of 3 mobile homes - caravans) owned by the citizen: Khalil Abu Dahuk, under the pretext of not being licensed.
• On 07/01/2021, the Israeli occupation authorities in the Ras al-Amud neighborhood in Jerusalem, forced the citizen: Hatem Shaheen al-Salaymeh, to demolish part of his house, after notifying him earlier, in order to avoid paying heavy fines in case the occupation authorities carried out the demolition, under the pretext of not being licensed.
• On 14/01/2021, the occupation authorities in the town of Beit Hanina forced the citizen: Fawaz Abu Hammad, to personally demolish his house, after notifying him earlier, in order to avoid paying heavy fines in the event that the occupation authorities carry out the demolition, under the pretext of not having a permit.

• On 03/01/2021, the Israeli occupation forces swept away a swimming pool in the village’s lands, during their raid into Deir Nizam village.
