Daily Report January 20, 2016

WEST BANK

JERUSALEM

Closure

(i) On January 19th 2016, the Israeli army, intensified their restrictions at the entrance to Jerusalem city, set up several flying checkpoints on the main road leading to the city and prevented worshipers under the age of 50 from conducting prayers at Al-Aqsa mosque compound which forced residents to conduct prayers near checkpoints located outside Al-Aqsa mosque compound.
(ii) The Israeli army continues to close the ‘demarcation area’ along the Wall in the area surrounding occupied East Jerusalem and restricts access to local residents as well as to civilians holding special permits.
(iii) The Israeli army continues to impose a blockade and deny civilian access to a hill between Biddu and Beit Iksa villages.

Closure of main Roads

• The Israeli army continues to close with cement blocks and dirt mounds the entrance to Jaba’ village.
• The Israeli army continues to close with an iron gate the eastern entrance to Beit Iksa village and forces civilians to access Jerusalem city through Qalandiya checkpoint.
• On November 16th 2015, Israeli forces closed the south entrance of Jabal Al-Mukabir neighbourhood in Jerusalem, which leads to “Armon Hantsiv” settlement with cement blocks.

Closure of Checkpoints

• Israeli authorities continue to consider Qalandiya checkpoint a “border crossing point” and designate a special crossing lane for holders of Jerusalem IDs and another for those possessing permits to access Jerusalem city.
• On September 19th 2012, Israeli forces closed Ras Khamis checkpoint near Shu’fat camp and impeded the free flow of traffic in order to construct the wall.

Flying Checkpoints

At 01:35, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint at Al-Ram and Jaba’ village junctions then searched residents and vehicles.

Raid

(i) At dawn on January 19th 2016, Israeli forces raided Al-Jadirat village and detained a resident.
(ii) At 18:00, Israeli forces raided Al-Eisawiya village and detained a resident.
(iii) At 03:30, Israeli forces raided Al-Eizariya and Abu Dis.

Attack

At 13:45, Israeli forces positioned at a watch tower near the wall gate in Al-Ram opened fire towards the child Mustafa Hani Ibrahim and as a result left him hospitalised.

Detention

(i) On January 18th 2016, Israeli forces detained Akram Thiyab Ibrash (A resident of Al-Amari camp in Al-Bireh city) near Al-Ram.
(ii) On the evening of January 19th 2016, Israeli forces detained Mohammad Zuhier near Al-Ram.
(iii) At dawn on January 20th 2016, Israeli forces detained 2 children: Ahmad Hussein Al-Abbassi (16 years old) and Mohammad Burqan (15 years old).
(iv) Israeli forces detained Abdallah Ahmad Thiyab Burjis in Al-Jadirah village.
(v) Israeli forces detained Loai Abu Al-Humous in Al-Eisawiya.

House Demolition

At dawn on January 20th 2016, Israeli force stormed Wadi Qadum area in Silwan neighbourhood and demolished a home owned by Samer Nassar for allegedly being built withy out a licence.

Obstruction of Places of Worship

At 10:30, a group of Israeli settlers under the protection of Israeli Military and Police forces stormed Al-Aqsa mosque compound in the old city of Jerusalem and provoked worshipers.

Closure of Wall Gates

(i) The Israeli army continues to close with cement blocks the Wall gate in Abu Dis town.
(ii) The Israeli army continues to deny civilian access through the Wall gate on Al-Shayyah road in the area between Al-Sawahira Al-Sharqiya and Al-Slewahira Al-Gharbiya villages, only allowing civilians holding Jerusalem IDs to cross, after subjecting them to thorough searches using electronic devices.

RAMALLAH & AL BIREH

Closure of main Roads

• The Israeli army continues to close the entrances to Sinjil village well as the junction to Kafr Malik and ‘Ein Samiya villages
• On December 15th 2015, Israeli forces closed the West entrance of Al-Labban Al-Gharbi village with cement blocks.

Flying Checkpoints

(i) At 12:40, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint beneath Yabroud village bridge then searched residents and vehicles until 14:45
(ii) At 15:00, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint at the entrance of Sinjil then searched residents and vehicles until 17:00.

Raid

(i) At 19:30, Israeli forces raided Beitin village, clashed with several residents then withdrew at 22:20.
(ii) At 24:00, Israeli forces raided Shuqba village.
(iii) At 24:00, Israeli forces raided Beit Rima, clashed with several residents as they stormed and searched 4 homes and as a result injured the child Yasser Hazim Aqel (16 years old) then withdrew at 03:35.
(iv) At 00:10, Israeli forces raided Deir Abu Mash ’al village.

JENIN

Closure

On December 24th 2015, Israeli forces closed off the area {900m wide and 100m long} along the main road connecting Jenin and Tulkarem leading to south Ya’bad and installed a barbed wire fence around the area and declared the area a closed military zone.

Closure of main Roads

(i) The Israeli army continues to close with dirt mounds the road leading to the town of ‘Arraba east of the illegal settlement Dotan.
(ii) Since the evening of November 25th 2012, Israeli forces closed the western entrance of Ya’bad.

Closure of Wall Gates

Israeli forces continue too close the wall gate and only allow those holding special permits to enter through it.

TULKAREM

Closure of Checkpoints

Israeli forces continue to intensify their restrictions at “Eniv” checkpoint located along the main road connecting Tulkarem and Nablus and impeded the free flow of traffic.

Flying Checkpoints

At 17:30, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint at Beit Lid junction and detained a resident.

Raid

(i) At 22:55, Israeli forces raided Kafr Zibad village.
(ii) At 00:50, Israeli forces raided Tulkarem, opened fire as they stormed and searched a home (for the alleged shooting of a Israeli soldier which left him injured) {As alleged by the Israeli Military} and detained 7 residents including 2 National Security Force Officers then temporarily detained Abdallah Mohammad Assaf (A Palestinian Police Officer) and released him at a later time then withdrew at 07:00.

Detention

(i) Israeli forces detained Majdi Subhi Abdel-Ghanni (A resident of Bal’a) near Beit Lid junction.
(ii) Israeli forces detained 7 residents: Thaer Mahmoud Assaf { National Security Force Officers}, Kamil Kamal Ahmad { National Security Force Officers}, Ma’moun Ahmad Hussien Abdallah, Mu’tasim Kamal Ahmad, Amjad Nasser Khurisheh, Oday Taysir Irmalat and Ahmad Qandil.

QALQILIYA

Closure of Roads

(i) Israeli forces continue to close with cement blocks agricultural roads east of Azzun town.
(ii) In addition to closing the gate installed since the outbreak the second Intifada, the Israeli army continues to close with dirt mounds the eastern entrance to Kafr Qaddum village.
(iii) Since 16:55 on December 18th 2014, Israeli forces closed an agricultural road leading to Far’ata village which is located near “Gillad” settlement with dirt mounds
(iv) Since 10:40 on September 1st 2015, Israeli forces closed an agricultural road leading to Far’ata village which is located near “Gillad” settlement with a steel Gate

Flying Checkpoints

(i) At 17:00, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint in the area between Jit village and “Qadumim” settlement then searched residents and vehicles.
(ii) At 17:40, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint at Jinsafout village junction then searched residents and vehicles.

Closure of Wall Gates

• The Israeli army continues to restrict access at ‘Azzun ‘Atma Wall gate and impeded the free flow of traffic. The Israeli army continues to close with an iron gate the entrance to the village of Wadi Al- Rasha and to deny civilian access.
• The Israeli army allows residents to access the village through Gate #109. Having removed the gate at the entrance to the village of Ras Atiya; the Israeli army only allows students to cross to their schools outside the village through the Habla gate.

NABLUS

Closure

Since December 17th 2013, Israeli forces ordered the closure 500 dunumes of land in Qusra village as a closed military area

Closure of main Roads

(i) The Israeli army continues to close the roads of Til-Burin and Beit Furik-Salem; the settler bypass road connecting the village of Deir al Hatab to the settlement of Alon Moreh; the road connecting the town of ‘Aqraba to the village of Osrin; and the detour road between the town of Qabalan and the village of Osrin.
(ii) The Israeli army continues to close the northern entrance to Qabalan town; the southern entrances to the town of Jamma’in and the villages of Duma and Qaryut.
(iii) At 06:30 on November 22nd 2015, Israeli forces closed the main road connecting Aqraba and Yanoun village with dirt mounds.
(iv) On November 29th 2015, Israeli forces closed the entrance of Burin, Awarta and Osirin as well as the agricultural bypass road connecting Aqraba and Qabalan village with dirt mounds.
(v) At 13:00 on December 1st 2015, Israeli forces closed the main road connecting Tel village and the bypass road near “Yitsahar” settlement and installed a steel gate in the area.
(vi) At 18:30 on January 19th 2016, Israeli forces closed the main road connecting Huwara and Odala village with dirt mounds.

Closure of Checkpoints

At 08:30, Israeli forces intensified their restrictions at Beit Furiq checkpoint and impeded the free flow of traffic.

Flying Checkpoints

At 17:15, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint at Deir Sharaf village junction located along the main road connecting Nablus and Tulkarem then searched residents and vehicles.

Detention

At 03:10 on January 19th 2016, Israeli forces detained Ayman Mohammad Ahmad Odeh during their raid into Askar camp in Nablus as mentioned in the previous report.

SALFIT

Closure of main Roads

(i) The Israeli army continues to close with dirt mounds the entrance to two detour roads connecting Marda village to its farmland.
(ii) On 15.04.2012, the Israeli army has opened the northern entrance to Salfit city to civilian which was closed since the year 2000 and prevented access from 08:00 until 09:20.
(iii) Since 11:00 on July 30th 2012, Israeli forces have closed two roads leading to Abu Nasar and Qatan Al-Jama’ located in western area of Deir Istiya with cement blocks.

Closure of Checkpoints

Israeli forces continue to intensify their restrictions at Za’tara checkpoint and impeded the free flow of traffic.

Raid

(i) At 00:10, Israeli forces raided Kafr Al-Dik and detained a resident after storming his home.
(ii) At 02:00, Israeli forces raided Qarwat Bani Hassan and served a military order for the demolition of a home owned by the family of Abdel-Azziz Mohammad Mahmoud Mir’I {A Palestinian Detainee}{Who Israeli forces accuse of aiding Mohammad Al-Halabi} and set the implication date for demolition on January 24th 2016.

Detention

(i) At 20:30, Israeli forces positioned at Za’tara checkpoint detained 2 residents: Haytham Mohammad Hamdan Aqra’ and Mohammad Musa Daoud Sa’id {both residents of Qabalan village} for allegedly finding knives in their possession.
(ii) Israeli forces detained Salah Khader Salah Hamadin in Kafr Al-Dik.

Settlers Violence

At 19:40, a group of Israeli settler positioned near Za’tara junction stoned residents and vehicles and as a result shattered the front windshield of a vehicle owned by Ayman Zaghloun (A resident of Tubas).

JERICHO

Closure of Checkpoints

Israeli forces continue to intensify its restrictions at Al-Hamra checkpoint set up along the road connecting Jericho and Nablus District.

Flying Checkpoints

(i) At 10:25, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint along road (90) near Al-Nuw’meh village located at the North entrance of Jericho then searched residents and vehicles, detained a resident then withdrew at 12:20.
(ii) At 10:25, Israeli force set up a checkpoint at the south entrance of Jericho then searched residents and vehicles until 11:40.

Raid

(i) At 10:25, Israeli forces raided Fasayil village, detained a resident then withdrew at 12:20.
(ii) At 22:00, Israeli forces raided Al-Jiftlik village and conducted military exercises in between residential areas.

Detention

(i) At 20:40, Israeli forces positioned at Allenby bridge detained Ali Musa Khalil Abu Dawahiq (A resident of Ein Al-Sultan camp in Jericho).
(ii) Israeli forces detained Salah Abdel-Qadder Mohammad Shawamrah (A resident of Dura in Hebron) along road (90) near Al-Nuw’meh village located at the North entrance of Jericho.
(iii) Israeli forces detained Jamil Mahmoud Mohamamd Khalil Ta’amra in Fasayil village.

BETHLEHEM

Closure

(i) The Israeli army continues to close roads to An Nu’man village, with the exception of the road leading to the Wall gate in the south-eastern area of the village.
(ii) Since 15 September 2007, the Israel army has prevented civilians from accessing or staying on 22 dunumes of confiscated land in Al Mazmuriya area in Beit Sahur and Bethlehem cities.

Closure of main Roads

(i) The Israeli army continues to close the Beit Jala-Wadi Ahmed road; a road between Um Tuba and Al-Jass ; a road between Um Tuba and Khilat Nu’man: a road between Um Tuba and the wall; a road between Al-Khas village and the wall; the 2 by pass roads located south of Al-Walaja; a road between Talita Qumi and Nazlat Al-Sider in Beit Jala; the eastern road of Al-Khader; the road between Al-Khader and Beit Jala ; Wadi Rahal road near “Ifrat” settlement ,the road between Al-Khader and road #60 which lead to the eastern neighbourhoods of Bethlehem; a road leading to Wadi Rahal, and a road east of Beit Fajjar town with dirt mounds.
(ii) The Israeli army continues to close the road leading to “Newe Daniyyel” settlement and agricultural land in Al-Khader; a road between Um Tuba and Wadi Al-Hums: Wadi Fukin, Al-Jaba, the Green Line; a road between Za’tara and a detour road, and a road between Taqou and Khirbet Al-Deir with cement blocks.
(iii) Since August 2nd 2012, Israeli forces closed a road leading to Beit Jalla.
(iv) Since May 8th 2013, Israeli forces closed the road connecting Al-Carmisan area in Beit Jalla and Al-Walaja with a steel gate and barbed wires.
(v) Since June 3rd 2013, the Israeli army closed the road connecting Nihalin and road 60 with dirt mounds.
(vi) Since 13:20 on September 29th 2013, the Israeli army closed a road leading to 50 acres of agricultural land in Wadi Salem area in Al-Khadr with dirt mounds.
(vii) Israeli forces closed the main road connecting Surif and Al-Jub’a village with dirt mounds.
(viii) On January 28th 2014, Israeli forces closed the steel gate at the entrance of Nihalin { replacing the dirt mounds placed at the entrance since the year 2002} and placed time schedule for opening the gate from 06:00 until 14:00 on a daily bases.
(ix) Since 10:45 on September 8th 2015, Israeli forces closed the agricultural road located in Arab Al-Rashaydeh village located near “Malee Amous” settlement with dirt mounds.
(x) At 13:45 on January 17th 2016, Israeli forces closed the south entrance of Nihalin village with a steel gate.
(xi) At 20:00 on January 18th 2016, Israeli forces closed the entrance of Jinata with dirt mounds.

Raid

(i) At 19:45, Israeli forces raided Nihalin village and detained a resident.
(ii) At 03:00, Israeli forces raided Bethlehem and Beit Sahour, stormed several homes and detained a resident in Beit Sahour then withdrew at 05:50.
(iii) At dawn on January 20th 2016, Israeli forces raided the south area of Bethlehem, stormed the home of child detainee: Othman Mohammad Kamal Musalim Sha’lan (16 years old) and took measurement of the home in order to prepare it for demolition.

Attack

At 13:35, Israeli forces positioned near Ayda camp in North Bethlehem fired stun and tear gas grenades towards several residents for alleged stoning

Detention

(i) Israeli forces detained Mohammad Thiyab Ismail Shakarneh (15 years old) in Nihalin village.
(ii) Israeli forces detained Ahmad Radwan Hamarneh in Beit Sahour.

HEBRON

Closure

(i) The Israeli army continues to close Khuzq Al-Far areas, as well as the old gold market in Hebron’s Old City. In addition to closing the entrance to Al-Qeisi neighbourhood, the Israeli army continues to close the entrances to the area of Al-Hisba (the fruits and vegetables market) with an electronic gate; Al-Laban Market also remains closed.
(ii) Since 05 January 2009, the Israeli army has closed the area located along the Green Line south of the town of Yatta. Having seized land for Wall construction, the Israeli army evicted the Palestinian residents and denied them access to the area.

Closure of main Roads

(i) The Israeli army continues to close the entrances to Al-Karmil village.
(ii) The Israeli army continues to prohibit Palestinian vehicles from travelling along the old Al-Shalala Street leading to Hebron’s Old City.
(iii) The Israeli army continues to close all roads leading to Road # 60 as well as detour roads along the settler bypass road leading to Yatta town.
(iv) The Israeli army continues to close with dirt mounds a detour road leading to e to Al-Simiya village, the southern entrance of Al-Samou’ and the entrance of Beit Annun with cement blocks.
(v) At 05:50 on November 5th 2015, Israeli forces closed the entrance leading Farsh Al-Hawa area in Hebron with Cement blocks.
(vi) At 10:30 on November 8th 2015, Israeli forces closed the junction located near “Hagi” settlement located in south Hebron with cement blocks.
(vii) At 21:00 on November 11th 2015, Israeli forces closed the main road connecting Beit Awwa and Al-Majd village with cement block and dirt mounds.
(viii) At 15:45 on November 15th 2015, Israeli forces closed Al-Samiya village junction located at the west entrance of Al-Samou’ with cement blocks.
(ix) On November 15th 2015, Israeli forces closed the entrances of Khliat Al-Miya and Al Dirat and the two bypass roads leading east Yatta with cement blocks.
(x) On November 23rd 2015, Israeli forces closed the entrance of Al-Qom village located in North Beit Awwa with Cement blocks.
(xi) On December 1st 2015, Israeli forces closed a checkpoint located along Al-Shuhada road located in the old city of Hebron and prevented residents from passing through the checkpoint and redirected traffic through a road near the entrance of Jabal Al-Rahma.
(xii) On December 9th 2015, Israeli forces closed a road near Jabal Jallis area located in the old city of Hebron and closed the bypass road.
(xiii) At 12:50, Israeli forces closed the entrances of Beit Amrah and Karmah village with dirt mounds.

Flying Checkpoints

At 16:30, Israeli forces set up a checkpoint along Halhoul Bridge then searched residents and vehicles.

Raid

(i) At 09:40 and again at 23:30, Israeli forces raided Nabi Na’im.
(ii) At 01:15, Israeli forces raided Sa’ir until 05:10.
(iii) At 01:20, Israeli forces raided Beit Amrah village, stormed the family home of the Child Detainee: Murad Badr Id’eis (16 years old) and took measurement in order to prepare it for demolition.
(iv) At 03:30, Israeli forces raided Al-Fuwar camp and stormed two homes.

Attack

At 21:00, Israeli forces positioned near Al-Aroub camp fired rubber coated steel bullets, stun and tear gas grenades towards several residents for alleged stoning and as a result injured a resident and detained two residents.

Detention

Israeli forces detained two residents: Ibrahim Khaled Al-Bassali and Mahmoud Salem Jawabrah in Al-Aroub camp.

GAZA STRIP

ALL DISTRICTS

• At 19:00 on August 26th 2014, Palestinian Gunmen and the Israeli military agreed to a cease fire agreement (brokered by the Arab Republic of Egypt) which includes the opening of border crossings to allow the entry of emergency supplies and humanitarian goods as well as construction material and agreed to increase the fishing limit to 6 nautical miles with possibility of increase to 12 nautical miles by the end of the year and to decrease the Military area to 100 meters, allow freedom of movement and a halt to targeted killings and assassinations and negotiations will be held for discussion on rebuilding the sea port and airports in the coming month.
• Israeli forces broke the ceasefire agreement by raiding Khan Yunis.
• Israeli forces broke the ceasefire agreement by opening fire from their positions behind the Green Line towards North Gaza.

NORTHERN GAZA

Closure of Crossing Points

Beit Hanun (Erez) is open for the passage of critical patients, journalists, NGO staff, businessmen and passengers travelling abroad through Al-Karama crossing with previous coordination.

Attack

At 12:40, Israeli forces positioned behind the Green Line opened fire towards agricultural land in Jabaliya.

GAZA

Closure of Crossing Points

• Al-Muntar (Karni) Crossing is closed. Beginning on 02 March 2011, the Crossing has been effectively closed following a unilateral Israeli decision.
• Al-Shija’iya (Nahal ‘Oz) Crossing is closed. Beginning on 04 January 2010, the Crossing has closed following a unilateral Israeli decision.

KHAN YUNIS

Raid

At 07:00 on January 19th 2016, Israeli forces escorting military bulldozers stormed 100m into the vicinity of Al-Qarara and levelled plot of land and detonated 2 UXO’s near the border fence then withdrew at 23:30.

RAFAH

Closure of Crossing Points

• Yasser ‘Arafat International Airport remains closed.
• Rafah (Al ‘Awdah) Crossing is closed
• Sufa Crossing is closed
• Karm Abu Salem (Karem Shalom) Crossing open for the entry of tourist and foreign diplomats and the entry of Humanitarian assistance and construction material funded by UNRWA
